As a keen hobby sailor, and former (conscription) Petty Officer 3rd Class of Finnish Navy, I have to say I really like your new sig, Derek!

BTW, I would like some native English speaking sailors to confirm if I translated my military rank correctly? The Finnish word for this rank is alikersantti, wich would translate as "undersergeant" (ali = under, kersantti = sergeant). It's the lowest of non-commissioned officer ranks, insiginia is this:



As every sailor knows, it's about the same rank than colonel in Army or Air Force

In the US Navy, that would a Petty Officer. They get the work done.

EDIT: What I mean is that we have three grades of Petty Officers.

Petty Officer 3rd class (Finnish: alikersantti, undersergeant):



Petty Officer 2nd class (Finnish: kersantti, sergeant):



Petty Officer 1st class (Finnish: ylikersantti, oversergeant):



Petty Officer 2nd class is the highest rank you can have when doing conscription service. Petty Officer 1st class, higher non-commissioned ranks and the officer ranks are only possible to those staying in the Navy after conscription.

That would be equivalent to a Corporal/Bombadier, Corporal, or a Leading Rate in the British Army, Royal Air Force, or Royal Navy respectively. See:
