Trouble Launching Counter Strike: Source

I just recently installed Windows 7 Build 7100 and it is working great except for when I try to run the steam game Counter Strike: Source. It ran fine when I had xp but now, on Windows 7, it won't launch. When I click launch game or click on the icon the window comes up saying that it's preparing to launch Counter-Strike: Source like it normally does, but then the window dissappears and the game does not load. I have already reinstalled steam and Counter-Strike so I don't know what to do now. Please help. :shock:

K, i would need to know your specs before offering help. At a glance make sure your drivers are the latest ones and tbh try a later build of Win 7. Many people including me are running cs with no problems

I have checked to make sure my drivers are updated. I did not no there was a later build then 7100. Could you send me the link to the download for the build that you are running counter strike source on?

Ive run counter strike on all builds, i would say search certain sites for the downloads, i cant give links etc... im running it on 7600 x64

If I install a new build (such as 7600) will i need to reload all my files back on the computer. Will it delete everything like it did when I installed the first one or is it just an upgrade.

u can try to upgrade but i would reccomend that you fresh install

Hey there, i just wanted to add i'm having issues connecting to the Master server list, the list of servers you load ingame.... i can run a list of servers in my game tab in my os, but when i try to connect it trys the 4 times then times out. any suggestions on this one ? i am having problems with Hero online and Atlantica online, however CS source is the only game i really enjoy , i can live without the others.... but source... i couldn't help but waste some digital ass... please help. my pc specs are in profile.

well if your having problems connecting to master server lists, that suggest either firewall issues on 7 or router. Have u had this problem before? This suggest to me that your outbound server retrieval is not being allowed.

Well having no router setup and my windows firewall off... my list will show for the server in the steam app, but when i get ingame, if i refresh my list it will tell me connection to master server failed, and when tryin to connect to a server from the steam app it will load my game and say , connectin.....' then it will pop up sayin its tryed 4 times and it tells me theres a firewall or router issue, which there isn't.

Steam list is a very simple thing, If its saying theres a problem connecting then there is somewhere along the line. Ill have a think about it and get back to you

thank you very much for your time on this, i appreciate your effort. if it helps any, it seams connection issues to front servers or master servers i have problems with , and for the record , ive never had this issue, only since ive got windows 7, and i acually don't wanna switch bak so id like to see about resolving this....however long it takes.

Add this server to favs

Then tell me what server it is. IF that works then your outbound connection is working fine. Otherwise it would not retrieve that server info.
I was talking to a friend last night who had the EXACT same problem, he backed up all his games and reinstalled steam
If you have not allready done that then try that. Failing that i think we need to be looking at a 7 Network issue.
I have read on steam forums people with the same problem not all on win 7 though. They suggested disabling IP6 ( i think its called ) in your network properties
And try the following:
Turning off Windows firewall
Deleting ClientReg.blob
Deleting all the masterserver.v thing

Ill continue to look around.
The fact that you have direct link to the net, no router etc... its defo a 7 issue. Think we need to be looking at network issues.
NOW. This may be a long shot but worth a try ive seen it work before ( on vista) dont know how though.
Install a new firewall. Then try to play a decent firewall will ask you to allow access. Grant it see if that helps. Cos if you grant access then the new firewall should allow that port outbound.

Well sevenfragservers or sth it is an assualt map was on , mind you i could retrieve that only in my steam server window on my desktop, not ingame.

Now i unchecked my IPv6 and tryed with no luck .
i have no idea where you mean to delete ClientReg.blob or masterservers.v... not sure where to check those....

i'll look into this firewall thing.... i don't like it...but i suppose if this is my only solution or POSSIBLE solution its worth looseing my dl's if all else fails to reinstall windows 7.... sheeshh, sucks that this is all my games... my hero online or atantica online won't even let me press the play button ><

well dam check this... my store page. like all the websites within the valve program won't load, they stay a white screen so i figured this was another thing that was being caused by this issue ive been having, i check a steam answers forum and found a procedure that alters the registry, so i tryed to add a string CafeRate. , set that baby to 5000 and restarted my steam appy.... sure enough the websites work now...BUT when i try to connect to a server , it still tryed 4 times then disconnects.

but all in all, what this breaks down to is my network not allowing 'master servers' or 'front servers' to connect what so ever.... still bothers the hell out of me.
