Trying to partition a HDD in command prompt

Trying to partition a HDD to install an OS. All was going well till I tried format the active partition - error: Parameter is incorrect

why are you doing this in a command prompt window? How are you bring up the command prompt, booting the computer to get to the command prompt.

And why not use some type of graphical UI program that you boot the computer from or the Windows install routine GUI for this.

Not really understanding why you are trying to do this from a command line interface.

Just asking, but why are you using the Command Prompt to do that?
Why not use Disk Management?

You could also use GParted from a Live Linux CD (my preferred method).

Have you used the "/?" switch to view the command help?

On the likelyhood you are installing Win7 then the DVD will allow you to do all of that prior to installing.
I have to agree that on face value there really is no need to do it from command line.
