Hello,

I had MSE installed and removed it because I kept getting error 0x800106ba when trying to run a full scan on my computer. I've been trying to reinstall MSE but keep getting error 0x80070643. My Windows firewall is on. I have no other anti-virus program installed. I've restarted my computer and tried reinstalling MSE and still get this error code 0x80070643. I tried repairing Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5.2.

I would really like to have MSE installed so your assistance in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for the suggestion but I'm not a tech person but it appears this thread is about uninstalling MSE and cleaning the registry- a lot of information which I don't understand!

Sorry for the false lead.

The info in that post did not help with this particular error code number :-(

Hello,

I've completed the scan. There wasn't a "list of found threats" option since the scan came back with no threats found. What should my next step(s) be?

Thank you.

The last MSE definition update was done on 9/13/15 definition 1.205.2377.0). Is this the update you're referring to? I was able to run a quick scan but when I tried the full scan, the scan would get about 3/4 done and then I got a message "your PC couldn't be scanned " and the error code 0x800106ba. I decided to do a full scan because I received an email from my internet provider (Cox) on 9/13/15 stating "Cox has identified that one or more computers/ devices behind your cable modem maybe infected with the FakeSecSen or "Spy Sheriff" Virus. A device behind your cable modem appears to have connected to a command and control server affiliated with this malware."

Thank you for your continued assistance in helping me try to resolve this issue.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet, shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

Holy cow! What have you downloaded? .... never mind :p

Please download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer Download - Geeks to Go Forum and save it to your desktop.

Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.

Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. Your desktop (Shortcut) icons will be removed, but they will return after you restart.

Important!
To ensure a complete clean, manually restart your computer.

Please tell me what's happening (now) with your computer.

Hello,

I downloaded the free Malwarebytes and ran the scan. It didn't have an option to select perform full scan so I went to the Custom Scan and checked all the boxes. The results of that scan are attached. No viruses found.

Please advise what I should do next.

Thank you.

That looks good!

Now, if you've uninstalled MSE through your control panel and 'Programs and Features'.... are you able to re-install it again?

If not let me know the errors and their #'s associated with it.

Hello,

I've just tried reinstalling MSE and I'm still getting error code 0x80070643. MSE did work at one time and I have done everything you've suggested but still no success. Is there anything else I can do or should I just install another anti-virus program?

Thank you.

Hello,

Other than the programs recommended by Jacee in this thread, the only other tools I've used to scan my computer are the Microsoft Security Scanner and Windows Defender. I did download Avast AV and ran a full scan (no threats found) but have since removed the program when I tried reinstalling MSE this morning.

Make sure Avast is totally uninstalled: https://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility

Next, let's take a look at what else is running...

Download DDS from one of these links:

DDS.com
DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Right click the dds icon to run the tool as Administrator.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Include the contents of both logs in your next post.
