Can you vouch for the registry cleaner? that's the one part i don't trust it to touch, but don't want a clogged registry either.

I'm using it's integrated registry cleaner from the 2007 version and i never had any problem with it.

But also i dont want to vouch for it, i guess you can never know what could go wrong (and that goes for any registry cleaner soft), but the trick is that u can revert all the changes immediately.

Eugh, i don't like it at all, its too controlling, as soon as you install it, it starts setting schedules to defragment, scan my registry and such, nope, not something youll find on my PC im affraid..

err...it never set schedules up for me...

Great Software

Started using it 6 months ago on Vista. Just upgraded to Windows 7 version ( TuneUp Utilties 2010). I love this program. It sped up vista and was easy to use. Seems to work ok on Windows 7. No problems. Try it. You'll like it.

I recommend giving this a try but create a system restore point before messing with it. The only thing I don't like is that it's stubborn and you can't right click to exit.

Read my post above...it isn't supposed to exit, it monitors the system for performance degradation

Think of it as an anti-virus app that has real-time protection

Registry Cleaner

Can you vouch for the registry cleaner? that's the one part i don't trust it to touch, but don't want a clogged registry either.

I can say that I have used TuneUp for several years, never had a problem. First time I used the registry cleaner years ago, I prudently closed my eyes and hit the Enter button, not knowing what to expect. Surprise, it worked!

Since then, no issues. Loaded 2010 onto my new system, and first thing I did was the registry cleaner and defragmentor. Saved ~ 10% in size, and I was able to preview the items it was suggesting to address prior to removing them (accepted most of them). (This was a Windows Upgrade / Custom install, so maybe this was normal).

I also used it to defragment the hard drive, as I prefer the visual that it provides over the Vista version (have not tried the Win 7 defrag thing yet).

Everyone has their biases, and I have mine. Used it on XP, Vista, and now Win 7, and it has been part of a monthly PC cleanup routine for years. Would feel lost without it.

I think the hysteria of reg cleaners is that they are many more bad ones than good ones...everyone has used a bad one

CCleaner and TuneUp have been my most favorite cleaning/optimization apps...they have never failed me

i would say TuneUp, it is more user friendly and it also has some great results on maintaining & optimizing your system

but it's just my opinion, i use it and i like it...

And it didn't completely uninstall as well, leaving the "tuneup undelete" behind in the context menu of my recycle bin, had to manually delete it via the registry.

What Tune Up Actually does is to clean up your orphaned files and registries. So if you are not one of that kind who installs and uninstalls just all those " PC World Download of the Day " it's definately not 4 you. I use Tune Up's Turbo Mode which really stops several unwanted windows services during my Bioshock 2 sessions
