tweak boot time up

I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit with i3 core and 8 gig of ram.
i want some tips on the boot process to speed it up. tried Msconfig etc, any registry tweaks etc that can be done to make the boot process faster. takes around 2 mins for the entire load to boot drivers, apps etc.

sorry it seems it takes too long to boot up everything. around 5 mins or more

Check the Performance log for clues as to what is hanging boot, establish a Clean Boot, utilize System Resources for solutions: Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Are there newer drivers cued in optional Windows Updates after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware?

Clean up HD using CCleaner disk and reg cleaner tabs, then use Puran Defrag Free Edition to do a boot time Defrag with full Disk check, after enabling Intelligent Optimizer on the Additional Operations tab.

Be sure to use a free lightweight AV like Microsoft Security Essentials to avoid problems.

If this is factory preinstalled Win7 than Clean Up Factory Bloatware or do what most tech enthusiasts do and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 .

If these don't improve start times then use the tool the Pro's use for Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace - Windows 7 Forums

Did the machine come with Norton AV installed? My 64 bit Vista machine took more than 2 minutes to warm boot. I turned on boot logging in msconfig. Turns out it was timing out waiting for Norton drivers to load that were no longer on the system. (I had to run Norton removal tool about 4 times then run CCleaner to clean out the dead registry entries.)

Trying to load drivers that no longer exist really adds to the boot time. If you see any in the boot log that never load do a system wide search for the file names. If they are not there it's probably some program you removed that didn't clean up its Registry entries on uninstall.

If the above suggestion doesn't apply then go down the list provided by greg.

no this is a pc built from scratch no bloatware at all.

It's still a good idea to check the boot log. Or have the machine come up in console mode and watch the log msgs in real time.

Milesahead how do you check the boot log that must be new to Windows 7..
