UAC Issue that I need help to fix...

Okay long story short ran antivirus one day and bam said I had virus/Trojan on PC. So I installed the program and during the scan and removal of the "supposed" files. UAC magically gets turned back on. I had UAC off and then I notice other strange things as well. Windows update all of a sudden needs to install new files and programs are not running like normal in start up. This is after windows update installed. I am through the roof spent about 20 hours last 3 weeks trying to fix it. Reset privileges, did SFC Scannow and every thing but reinstall. I am at a loss on how to fix this. The UAC control panel does not even pop-up nothing happens when I hit change it. I tried hotfix for it and I mean I have dug under every rock for an answer.

Worse part is folder options will not save. When you have to close every folder you opened all the time it drives you to ask questions in a place that maybe can help me. Removing antivirus that created these issues made it worse. I have never seen a program just override my Admin rights.

So i manged to get start-up programs to load in by reinstalling them over again.

The Antivirus was Sophos I believe.

Sounds like a nasty bug, best thing to do in the future is have options. First being, don't get another bug, which seems obvious, but I'll assume there is a lot more you could do security wise to help your cause. Second, if you do have a bug, it's nice to have your data stored and a way to restore everything to a point before the madness began. Finally, Trojans and viruses don't always make themselves known, so even though things might seem fine, running scans regularly with programs like Malwarebytes or even the built in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24076-malicious-software-removal-tool.html is a great way to be sure you are clean and if something does get by, you at least know about it before it does further damage.

Thanks for the responses. I randomly do TDSkiller sweeps and other forms of virus checkers because I think Microsoft Security Essentials is trash and the other free ones do not cost you money but the hassle of closing ads and all the visual spam. I normally have options because I find my own answers. Restore points do not go back as far as I need. I only have the upgrade Win 7 64 bit disc but I can down load a repair install disc.

I just do not like to give up on my OS self fixes because of my Vista doing 10 total re-installs. Thanks for your time!

Honestly though it was the anti-virus software that did all the damage.
