Unable to download any programs

About a month ago I bought a Dell Inspiron 1564with Windows 7. I have not been able to download any programs except Itunes, which is very slow. For example it starts to download Skype and gets about halfway through then a message pops up saying it cannot download. It has done the same with other programs and I just can't seem to fix it. I have tried resetting my internet settings, but that did not help either.

Can someone please help me, I have no other way of fixing this.

this is your comp correct?

Is the version of Windows a 64x installation?
Was the win7 an upgrade from XP or Vista? or did it come with computer already set up?

does this happen with both .exe files and .zip files?

If that doesn't work, clear out your cookies and temp files. you can do this through IE >tools>internet options>General tab (I think) Delete cookies and Delete files.

If that doesn't work, create a folder somewhere other than the desktop on the c: drive maybe

C:\downloads and download it to this folder and see if it still gives you an error.

I would suggest just getting Firefox, but if you cant download it then thats not an option....
