While watching a live feed on the internet, it stopped responding, so i held down the power button on my laptop to turn it off with the aim of restarting it. Unfortunatley now it won't restart and freezes no the 'starting windows' page. I have tried safe mode with networking, restaring at last known good configuration, booting from cd and repairing but nothing has worked.

Any ideas what i can do?

Thanks

Try to run startup repair from the cd. Also, try to run System Restore from the cd.

Hmmm, not sure what has happpened but it appears to be working again :)

Ran system repair and got the following messages
Problem event name: startup repair offline
Problem signature 1; 6.1.7600.16385
2: 6.1.7600.16385
3: unknown
4: 486
5: external media
6: 1
7: no root cause
Os version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locaie id: 1033

Then another message
Root cause found - unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem
Repair action: system files intergity check & repair
Result: failed error code =0x490

It gave the option to restart, so i did and it has booted up fine. Not sure what the problem was but glad my laptop is working again!

It looks like startup repaired something even thoughthe operation failed. I have had similar things happen with System Restore. Sometimes, Windows just does weired stuff:D

Windows does do things like that. Once, I did a system restore, and it said it failed, but when I restarted on got to desktop, it said System Restore completed successfully. That's Windows for you I guess :p

Wish I had a few GBP's for every occasion that Windows tells me that something cannot possibly be corrected. Then it is, seemingly with no input from me ...
