Unable to partition

I have a seagate FreeAgent Desk that i partitioned a 50GB partition and formatted it to HFSj for my mac. Now when i try to delete it under disk managment, it doesnt work. It says

The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.

What does that mean and why cant i partition it back to the 1.5 TB (Delete the partition)

Also iv tried EASEUS Partition Master, that wouldn't work either. It would say it worked, but when its done, it doesnt say unallocated, it says Other for the file system.

Boot Disk

try a bootable Linux disk or Hirens boot cd any thing like that and try deleting the partition that way

Neither of those worked. It wont let me format either partition either i just found out.

have you tried to use disk wipe and write zeros to the whole drive and start from scratch

I cant, because all my data is on that drive and i cant back it up anywhere because it is my backup drive.

If you delete the partition - you will lose your data.

Si I notice you're recommending Paragon now instead of Partition Wizard.

What are the advantages of Paragon over PW? I am still using PW to help with copy operations and it seems to work every time.

After all, the one really big Copy disaster in the past month was when she used imaging software instead of PW, resulting in the Not-Geniune fiasco.

So I'm reluctant to let go of PW which you turned me onto in the first place and has now helped extract 150+ dual boots with almost total succcess, by my rough count.

Paragon is useful for resizing Extended partitions.

It also supports ext2, ext3, ext4 , and some support for Apple .

It depends on the task in hand.

There have been several issues with PW - not just that one - often the OP has been saved by guidance from here. It is very good for a freebie. It is far from perfect. There have been one or two recent cases of data loss thru incomplete operations.

PW is no use if you are not using FAT or NTFS.

Same problem as original post - but I can delete all data from disk

I had a seagate 9sd2a4-500 "Portable Usb Device" External Hard drive with 2 partitions, - one HFS, one FAT32.
I wanted to make one single exFAT partition to allow everything to be on one place and accessible from modern Windows and Mac OS's, so backed up all the data and proceeded to format both to exFAT and delete one so I could extended the other.

I get the same error in the original post whenever I try to do anything and it says format was unsuccessful, but it shows all the disk space to be free and the file system as changed. Both are Healthy, Primary partitions. I tried changing them to NTFS and shrinking/extending in Disk Management but failed again. I've tried doing all of the above in Paragon as well, no such luck. It got the same error, and if you click retry, it repeats. Click Ignore and a tick comes up implying it worked, but in Disk Management it appears as a New Volume without file system or letter. A format gives it a file system but says it wasn't done successfully, and when I add a Drive letter it can be detected in Windows.

Ultimately, I have placed files in both partitions and opened them successfully, so there isn't really an issue in terms of usability, I just really want to know why this isn't working and what would fix it! I'm guessing it's a hardware fault that's unrepairable but am not sure. I saw something about having dynamic disks able to share volumes over disks and think that would be fine as the only warnings about dynamic disks seem to be to do with booting OS's which this isn't an probably never will be used for.

I understand this is an incredibly old post and would be incredibly grateful if anyone responds!

P.S. Going to restart my PC now and see if that helps anything, will update if it does

Not sure if it will help, but after restart when I tried deleting a partition (in Disk Management) it failed but the previously installed MacDrive popped up and tried doing something with it, and both partitions were deleted leaving me with an unallocated hard drive I then formatted to exFAT, so my problem is solved, but how or why I'm not sure. Hopefully my posts can help someone else who may stumble across the problem and forum post!
