In Windows 7 Explorer, down beneath "Computer" is listed the C-drive.

In front of C: there are 11 assorted numerals/symbols.

What is that and can I delete it?

If the are 11 numerals/symbols, it is the disc label.

To rename it or delete it, right click your C: drive, select properties and there you can work with disc label.

Hope this helps.

I made a mistake. The array is entirely alphanumeric with no other symbols. It looks like this:

Computer
* TI246873W0D (C:)

* is a small Windows icon. The first two and last three digits are as they appear - the rest I changed, though there's probably no need for secrecy. Clicking it shows: Intel, Program Files, Program Files(86), etc.

I suppose I should just ignore it. I'll do the Label check mentioned. Thanks.

Obviously the smiley face doesn't belong there. A colon and close parenthesis does.
