I have restored my Windows 7 system from a WindowsImageBackup which was 80GB. The system was updated with Windows Update (>100 updates from last around 12 month period), a few minor programs and data files, and a new system Image Backup was created resulting in a WindowsImageBackup of 192GB. What makes this happen and what can I do to get a 'normal' size ?
The backup's are taken with standard windows 7 utility (Control Panel, Create a SystemImage Backup) and directed to the second HDD.

A disk management screenshot would help. Make it a full screen capture.

Also, What partitions does Windows want to include in the system image.

Possibilities: either your additional data and programs are larger than you think or else a system file now exists on another partition.

Once you have sorted this you may want to consider (free) Macrium Reflect for system imaging. It's very well regarded and does image compression as well.
