Hi everyone! This is my first post so it probably won't be very interesting. But I wanted to share the fact that Windows 7 can be put on machines not supporting it. For example, my last desktop (of which I got rid of for reasons I'll discuss later) was a dell dimension 3000. It only supported Windows XP, so I had to use a separate computer to download the drivers for it (as none of the drivers were installed). Once on the computer, I simply ran all the drivers in compatibility mode. And this worked great to get my computer running but because it was running XP drivers, The computer didn't totally run well. On the other hand, my Moms Dell Optiplex 745 supports vista 32-bit, so I figured because vista and 7 are so similar, I'd upgrade the computer to windows 7 before I gave it to her. Most of the drivers didn't even require compatibility mode, and the ones that did still work great. I guess because windows 7 and vista are pretty much the same kernel (vista 6.0, 7 6.1) it works better.

Funny thing is, I also got 2 Optiplex GX520's from the same place I got my moms 745- my school. My school was getting rid of all of their desktops that don't support 7, which is a couple hundred of 'em.

Anyway, that's my first post, hope you all enjoyed!

I had an e-Machines T2885 from I think 2001. Back in it's day I trhink it was a high-end machine. 2.80Ghz Celeron, 512MB RAM, and 64mb Onboard Chipset hahah. Windows 7 upgrade advisor gave a plethora of problems, the weirdest thing despite have no aero, it booted up in under a minute and was very responsive, especially since it runs on old PATA drives. I keep it to test now, might make it a Peppermint Linux machine so I can use the stone-age wireless adapter that only works with XP SP2.

Wow, I'm surprised I already got this much reviews! Anyway, I got rid of my old dimension 3000 because my sound card had been out for a few months when the hard drive failed. I didn't see the point in sinking any money into a computer that was never up to snuff IMO in the first place. And I already had a laptop. But I think laptops are very unnatural, which is why I have 2 gigs of ram shipped to my house for one of the optiplexes I have. They have a 2-core, 2.8 ghz cpu with a 1066 mhz fsb and a gpu that's almost top of the line for an integrated gpu. I'll be posting some more stories about that soon!

Windows 7 ran fine on an old Optiplex GX280 (2004-ish). I put Windows 8 CP on it since then though since it runs faster.
