Was wondering if I could delete these folders on my C Drive. There are 3 that randomly appeared they are:

Hi::)

Short answer: (Yes) Just to play it safe, you might want to at least create a system restore point and/or make a backup system image to an external USB hard drive, e.g. with Macrium.

Longer answer: See this thread

Manual Win Update folder remnants - safe to delete?

Please let us know how it goes, so that we can all learn.

Thanks,
MM

Hi, torchwood:

AFAIK, TFC is no longer developed (and may no longer be officially supported??), although I understand that it still works OK under Win7.

However, these wonky, leftover files from attempted/failed Windows updates attempts are in the root of the C:\ drive (at least they were for me and many other folks).
Will TFC find them there?

(I had no trouble manually removing them, without the need for a 3rd-party app. But I am not qualified to say for sure that the same approach will also work for the OP.)

Just asking in order to learn,

MM

TFC by Old Timer still works for me.

When I use it and reboot, I then use Ccleaner and all kinds of things are found.

I also still use Disk Clean Up in conjunction with the above.

Hi:

Understood.
I see that some folks still use TFC on Win7 and below (AFAIK 8/8.1/10 are not supported).
It definitely enjoys a loyal fanbase.

But that was not really my question...:(

Does "TempFileCleaner" even look in the root of the C:\ drive for junky files? <just asking>

I (and others who replied to my previous thread and in other venues) have just deleted the files in question manually. That may be all that is needed for this particular issue.

Anyway, thanks!
MM

Just ran TFC and as far as I can work out it only cleans temp files plus recycle bin. I don't know of any application that auto detects those leftover folders after applying windows updates. They appear on the drive with the most free space available so may not be located on the windows partition. Currently I do not have any such folders so cannot test any apps which might detect and remove them.
