Updates fail to install, errors: 800B0100 and 8024200D

whooops
manually installed KB2862335 using installer file. Went through, did some configuration on reboot and then swhoosh frozen log in screen. No mouse or keyboard input possible. Tried safe mode but to no effect, also login screen frozen. Peripherals work up to (and including) windows start up options F8 and the selections.

Any advice what I can do?
I will not be at the computer during the week and can try to fix this only on the weekend then.

Best wishes,
C

Try booting to the Startup Repair option if it's available - or go into 'Repair My Computer' and run the startup repair option from there.

This doesn't sound good :(

I can't see anything wrong in either log - perhaps the c:\windows\windowsupdate.log file has something that may help?

There's an error 0x80248014 that keeps cropping up... which is often caused by firewalls.
What security software is installed? (AV/Firewall/Anti-Malware?)
Apart from that everything looks pretty normal.

The major problem is the 0x8024200d error - and we've done almost all the usual things that MS recommend, except their automatic troubleshooter - here... automatic troubleshooter

PLease give it a try and post the results.

thanks for the hint and sorry for the delay, caught a tough virus (as in illness, no computer problem) that kept me busy.

I am not running any particular AV/Firewall etc. software besides microsoft security essentials.

I tried the automatic trouble shooter and it returns that the check for missing and corrupt files has found errors. It does not say if it fixed them. When I rerun the thing it returns the exact same message so I doubt anything was autofixed.

Your original CheckSUR report from October is rather alarming.
Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 7287
 Found 620 errors
 Fixed 262 errors
CSI Manifest All Zeros Total count: 248
Fixed: CSI Manifest All Zeros. Total count: 62

CBS Catalog Corrupt Total count: 84
Fixed: CBS Paired File. Total count: 35
CSI Catalog Thumbprint Invalid Total count: 110
Fixed: CSI Catalog Thumbprint Invalid. Total count: 110

The Second run shows...
Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 2665
 Found 358 errors
CSI Manifest All Zeros Total count: 186
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 88
CBS Catalog Corrupt Total count: 84

I would suspect that the problems here a much more than are apparent in the bare reports - with potential for all sorts of registry problems hidden from normal scans.

Had I read that initial report, I would have recommended a repair install as a solution.

The error in the most recent CBSPersist file shows as
Code:

The Fixit appears to be complaining about the following sequence...

... which appears 5 times in the CBS.log file.

I have to be honest and say that I have no idea what it means! :(

I'll do some research and see what I can find out.
