Well I got hit with a large dose of it, that's why I haven't been able to respond in time.

Sunday our Dryer's timer went out, and when I went to go and pick up the part yesterday the brake lines on my '03 Silverado started leaking. The '99 to '06's were noted for that.

I was able to get home okay, and today I found a local mechanic, and had it towed there. Should have it back by Friday.

So with all the running I'm shot, and I'm not really able to concentrate on all of your valuable advice.

I'll try, and have updates by Thursday latest.

I will say I didn't think Calvary looked right, and thought it should've been spelled differently. (Cavalry) maybe it was intended, and I think I have ieSpell and Adobe Reader straightend out.

I was going to try and answer all the replies in quotation style, but that can get messy quick so I'll try to hit the high points. I will keep some quotes for clarification.


I have ieSpell and Adobe Reader straightened out. I had to do a reinstall of ieSpell, and enable Adobe Reader in CCleaner.

If Silverlight is installed, then it must be updated - older versions have security holes.
Either update, or uninstall.

That's the rub....I did uninstall, but there are some leftover Folders/Files.
Do I try to remove the leftover Folders/Files (Is there a Silverlight removal tool?) or update them with the hidden updates?
I have not received any new updates for Silverlight since the uninstall.

I looked at that About IE in the help menu again, and if you notice there on the second line it (mine) says Update Versions 9.0.10 KB2744842 I take that to mean that my IE9 is updated up to, and including KB2744842

Does anyone have a higer update version?

Windows Update should give you needed updates, you can check manually.
I have Silver Light and only have seen it on MS sites as someone said.
I use iespell and had startup DISabled in CCleaner and it still works, it shows up in the right click context menu or by clicking the ABC check mark in replying to posts here on SF.

I had the XSS warning here on SF a few times, but Admin couldn't explain it.

This is another style that I will have to get used to, I prefer the red squiggly lines under a mis-spelled word then right clicking, and picking the correction from the context menu.

The XSS warnings have stopped since the Security reset to default levels.

If you decide to uninstall - I suggest hiding all Silverlight updates (Right click on the update in WU and select hide - you can if you wish, restore updates anytime)

If Silverlight is installed, then it must be updated - older versions have security holes.

Either update, or uninstall.

Well the Dryer's working again, and I just got a call from my mechanic that the truck is ready.
I feel that my questions about IE9 and then some have been answered so I'll mark this thread solved, but open to further discussion.

As far as the hidden Silverlight updates are concened, I'd Unhide htem, then do a Check for Updates, and re-hide any that come up again - if you find that you need Silverlight for anything, you'll be prompted to install it, and you'll then have to contend with the updates afresh if you do.

I wouldn't bother about the residues - but don't try and rip them out by hand, as that may cause problems when/if you reinstall.

Did what you suggested and found one more Sliverlight (SL) update. Hid that one also, but it seems that those five have now become one with a 12.5MB total.

I will contend with the updates if I have to, but I know I will let sleeping dogs lie.

One thing that's driving me mad is an occasional line jump when editing. Words get cut and typing continues some where else. Ahhh, but that's another problem.

It only appears to re-offer SL, MS is persistent in trying to get it's own video technology front and center. I've installed it, uninstalled it, hid updates, restored updates, installed and uninstalled this sucker so many times.

I finally decided I just don't need it and uninstalled it - I'm sure it will be offered again at some point - I'll just hide it and continue to hide future SL offerings. As someone else pointed out - SL seems to only be on MS sites. So if you want to view a video offered in SL format - you can always click on the install presented at that time.

One of the problems is that there are 5 versions of Silverlight - the later ones are 'upgrades' which are supposed to replace the earlier ones - but the upgrades have updates as well, so you may be seeing varying updates, wwhich is why I said to recheck manually before hiding all SL updates again.
I know it does tend to show on most manual update checks, but WU is supposed to respect the hidden setting.

Okay troops I have a big problem with IE9, it will only run correctly if I "run as administrator" (RaA) otherwise it starts, but is in a loop with the home page. FF 16.0.1 works.

If I have to RaA isn't that a permissions issue?
All users under IE9's Security tab have the same Permissions checked.

What happened? It ran great for a week an a half, now nada! the only change I can think of is last patch Tuesday.

I've tried different home pages it acts the same.

Created a shortcut from the .exe file, no luck.

Haven't been able to go much further. Have done some research.
It could be it needs reinstalled to repair.
I may need to create a new user account.
I may need to reinstall the OS.

Has anyone had experience with this?

It probably means that one of the Temp folders has lost permissions, but you're confusing em with your statement 'All users under IE9's Security tab have the same Permissions checked.' - there are no users in the Security tab (or are you talking about the Shortcut, or the executable, or what??) details count!

Do you have multiple profiles on the machine? If so, are the problems common to all, or just that one?
