Solved USB 3.0 hardware only running at USB 2 speeds

If your 3.0 drivers are up to date AND your Intel inf drivers are installed and current you have faulty hardware.

All of it is faulty? I don't buy that.

If 3.0 drivers only being recognised as 2.0, with ALL drivers installed, then why spend loads of money 'testing' it? I assume you have just bought the board so exercise your rights and send it back. Life's too short.

I bought it last year and have had this issue since. I tried to resolve it by swapping it with a GB board and it does the same, so put in a new MB that's the same model as the original, which does the same too. I also bought Vantec dock that did the same and Vantec said it was faulty so I returned it and got this Syba one which does the same. I have always felt its the drivers, but Intel is saying it's not for some reason.

I would go to MSI site that Chris2005 gave in post 2, verify it is good for your board, download the USB3 driver file to desktop. Delete the existing driver for the USB3 and replace with the one you downloaded. When I got wifes laptop from MSI I wanted to replace 8 with 7 and was cautioned by a tech at MSI to use their drivers as one direct from maker (such as Nvidia) probably won't work and in his own words "may possibly brick the computer". Obviously they are modded.
When all is working that Sandisk stick takes a 1G video file in 10 seconds. :D

I have tried those MSI drivers (were the ones I have been using up till the other day when I got into this more to get it fixed, and tried the newer Intel ones.) I've tried older ones as well both from MSI and Intel, done clean installs of the OS etc etc...

So in essence you have tried two mobos and a number of 3.0 devices so it's likely a software/driver issue. Do a clean os install and use intels own inf and usb drivers. MSI drivers are more trouble than they're worth IMO.

I have tried that as I mentioned. I am on my 6-7 Windows install since last fall trouble shooting this and crap Nvidia issues. That is why I think there is something wrong with the drivers (Intel or MSI,) but Intel says theirs are working fine...

When you do a fresh install do you install the inf drivers first?

Should clarify, the chipset drivers.

Sorry, I not sure what you mean. I install the OS, then the motherboard drivers (which includes the usb.) Do you mean to slipstream or what ever its called into the inital install? If so, I am not sure how to do that with Usb drivers (though has done it with the F6 option for other Intel ones.)

No. Intel Chipset Inf drivers are for the chipsets. They connect everything PCI based to the processor including the USB 3.0 controller and graphics port. You shouldn't HAVE to do this but it's good practice to install Intel chipset drivers before any others.

I have tried both ways. The first few times I tried with all the newest drivers I could find (as I usually try to do for best compatibility with hardware I am running.) Then have tried with only stuff form the MSI website. This last install is a mix...

Well, I have an interesting update.

I received the new Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 stick and it seems to run fine at USB 3 speeds and shows its running at Super-Speed in UsbTreeView! I have also found out that the Samsung Note 3 needs to be placed in "Usb 3 mode" and only stays in it for 10 minutes! What a sham that is with the Note!

So the only issue is with this Usb 3 Syba Dock station and an older Lexar Usb 3 stick. I think the Lexar stick may have an issue anyways, as it doesn't work at Usb 3 on any computer I've tried now. Syba thinks I should RMA the dock, but didn't confirm if it was defective or not, so I may send it back and try something different again... MSI thinks it could be the motherboard, but I am having doubts on this after the above...

Sooo, this has taken a weird twist and I'm not sure why the two items still don't work right, but at least its going in the right direction I think.

I replaced the Syba dock with a new different Vantec enclosure, and its reading as Super-speed usb 3, and with the WD black in it is getting decent speeds for a platter drive :) I love this Sandisk Extreme usb 3 stick too, its fast!!!

So it looks like it was issues with multiple hardware all along :/

Thank you all for helping me try and figure this out, its much appreciated!

Are we talking about 50mb/s read or write speeds?
If so, they are not USB2 speeds, since the 'limit' is between 30-40 mb/s...

I don't know what you mean.
Never mind, I was not aware this issue was solved...
But what I meant, is that earlier on the thread I read that someone was achieving 50mb/s speeds, and flagged that as USB2 speed...
Usb2 speed does not go that high, but stays between 30-40 mb/s...
So there was something going on to make an USB 3 device go that slow...

ah, I see what you mean. I was getting 45MB/s and it was usb 2 speeds as the devices were only detected as usb 2 (High-Speed devices, not Super-Speed) in UsbTreeView. Now this platter drive is doing about 95MB/s which is good for a platter drive :)

This Sandisk Extreme usb3 stick does about 240r/140w, which is really nice!
