Hi,
I was downloading some files to USB HDD (2.5" 320GB) when BSOD appears. After that I can't write/delete files or even format disk in this one system. I tried disk in Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux and also Windows 7 on another PC - it works, disk is not read only and is fully functional!

I've formated this HDD (full format) on other PC but it is still read only in my Windows 7.

I found that in the Windows XP there was registry hack to do this (remove HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies\WriteProtect) but not in the Windows 7...

Do you have some advice for me?

Attach it to a machine that reads it.

Then from an elevated command prompt:

chkdsk /r C:

Change C to its driver letter.

If that doesn't help, you could try a low level format instead.

I did it all... Checkdisk was very first thing I did. Also I wrote I formated this disk and I meant low level format. It was formating about 6 hours... But nothing helped. Disk still works on other computers or also my computer with different system. I'm sure reinstalling windows will help but there must be another way.

It's a filter problem then. Simplest way to fix it is a repair install for the machine that can't read it.

This way is kind of reinstalling system... But I realized that this will reinstall all drivers. So I just uninstall driver for this USB HDD, unplug & plug USB... Then system install driver again and now it finally works! :)

Upload Dump Files
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

If you have issues with "Access Denied" errors, try copying the files to your desktop and zipping them up from there. If it still won't let you zip them up, post back for further advice.

If you don't have anything in that folder, please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service - then post the link to it.
Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): Set MiniDump

MSINFO32
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
