What should my total paging file size be set to, in the lower box it says minimum 16 mb and then Recommended 12202 mb and then currently allocated says 20349 mb and I balanced this means for all drives individually and if so for one what is currently allocated 20349 has not been set yet because I course stem manager size and then checked automatically manage paging file size for all drives and v then it said it needed to restart to make these changes and then I noticed the allocated was way higher than the recommended so I don't know how to set it back correctly for each drive. There are 4 drives c: set to sudden managed right now space available 542389 mb need custom setting amount for initial size box and amount for maximum size box??Then D: (ms-dos) is set to none right now available space 15568 mb (do I change that to custom and if so what goes in the initial and maximum size box ?? Then F: (Toshiba -ext hd) set v to system managed right now available space 555341 mb again what for informal and maximum size box?? Finally Z: (system-drv) set to none right now and only 1184 mb space available so what to do if any one could please help. By the way I am running win 7 home premium 64 bit sp1

Hello Slade,

You only need to have one page file for Windows, that's best kept on C:.

To reset everything, remove the page file on all drives, restart the PC to clear them, then set your page file to be on the C: drive and be managed by the system.

Is it really not better to offload the pagefile to a low-traffic secondary drive?

The best way to do it is in Brinks post #2.
One shouldn't try to out smart Windows 7 when it comes to such things.

Only if it is a separate physical drive (not partition) and it has performance comparable to the Windows drive. You want the pagefile on the partition with the most activity because that is where the drive heads will be most of the time. That will almost always be the partition containing Windows. Most attempts to optimize the pagefile are wasted effort and unless you really understand what you are doing they are likely to be counterproductive.
