Warning VMLite screws your VirtualBox setup!

funny enough i think that because of this software made MS back down from having VT necessary in the HW
the only reason now to use it would be for VB 3d acceleration or if you are using Vista or W7 hp or lower (which is against the EULA and ill leave it at that)

Regardless of XP mode changes to allow it to run without hardware assisted virtualization...I'm not going to use it

#1). It's slow
#2). It lacks features. For example, snapshots
#3). It's support for non MS operating systems is abysmal.

There is lots of room in this market for competing products.

Everything works now but you can be absolutely sure that I am never going to use any products from VMLite, and I am going to tell this to anybody who wants to hear about it, using all the possibilities I have.

I have never seen a program behaving this bad, hijacking and destroying another program.

For me that's enough reasons to think that coders at VMLite do not really know what they are doing. You can not make a program like this and not to think what happens to other programs or what happens if user wants to uninstall. Really bad coding practice.

You didnt follow the instructions, had problems, decided to blame VMLite for your mistake, had a huge rant to make it look like it wasn't your fault, then to top it off you said Huisinro doesnt know what he is doing.

Its obvious you didn't bother to get support or ask Huisinro, Now instead of contacting the VMLite support or Huisinro, you ranted and made insulting/stupid comments and yet you still dont see how the comments I quoted are insulting?

As a developer myself, I find all of these actions quite offensive, If you bothered contacting him first or at least attempting to get support then it would all be a different story.
I still can not see what I said wrong? I followed the documentation available on their site, it was nowhere to see that full version is not compatible with VirtualBox.

We have a 10 hour time difference. When I was testing, it was night there. I had already noticed that an email answer from VMLite took a day. VMLite does not give any phone number or any other way to contact them, there's only one email. Call it stupid but I always have a negative feeling about a software company when I see they do not tell the address and phone number. Huisinro was offline, there was nobody to contact.

I just noticed you have neg rep'd me because of this thread, saying 'Blaming others for your mistakes'. My mistake was to believe that VMLite is better and faster than XP Mode, and wanting to test it. As I already mentioned a couple of times, there's no information available on their site or documentation that VMLite full version screws your VirtualBox setup.

The only person insulting someone here is you by neg rep'ing me for telling my opinion and recommendation. Read the 'What do you not like in Windows 7' thread; if this is a new policy here then you have a lot of work to do by neg rep'ing all those telling how bad Windows 7 is and recommmending others not to use it.

I can understand Huisinro is your friend and you want to show your support, neg rep makes it public. Totally understandable. That is natural, I do it every day. But at the same time you are saying that because a member of this company is also a friend and a member of the Seven Forums, it is not allowed to criticize products they make. Bashing Win7 is OK, that thread has already hundreds of similarly criticizing posts, with only one difference: some of those posts are from users who have not tested or found a feature, or who really have caused the problems themselves.

Still hoping that it is allowed to present valid complaints and opinions based on facts,

Kari

If you use first exe, then it should stop to install if VBox is detected. We check this key to determine whether VBox is installed, the following is the warning dialog:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sun\VirtualBox]
"InstallDir"="C:\Program Files\Sun\VirtualBox\"

If somehow, your computer has the above key deleted, then VMLite may proceed to install, as if there is no VBox on the computer.

I make the video tomorrow, to show I never get that dialog.

no need to check wow6432node, as vbox does not install 32-bit on 64-bit, it's purely 32- on 32-, and 64- on 64-.

It's also possible that Kari clicked the Yes button?

Four times in a row? Do you really think that I would miss that warning four times in a row? Or do you not believe I did the test four times?

wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
even if VMLite full proceeds to install, it should not destroy vbox files, and you can safely switch between vbox and vmlite, we have many users doing that, this is the thread:

install vmlite side by side with virtualbox - VMLite

First, let me correct a possible misunderstanding. When I wrote my original posts, I knew you are connected with VMLite but I had no idea you were the main coder. That I learned from dmex's reply.

When I used word You in my original post, I was talking to VMLite as a company, not you as a person.

OK, further: Installation messed my VBox big time, four times. Period.

I checked your forums, searched 'VirtualBox'. I'm tired now, so I only went through 75 first hits not finding the thread you mention, nor any other warnings about incompatibility if VirtualBox is installed.

Searching the main site for 'VirtualBox' only brings four hits. This is the only one with any meaningful reference to VirtualBox: VMLite Workstation Overview

I do not believe that you want to say, that every time before installing new software you should carefully go through the user forums for that software, that for instance before installing VPC the user should read hundreds of threads and thousands of posts in Social.TechNet about Virtual PC.

Kari

EDIT: Maybe I'm not clear enough with what my point is. Nowhere on your site can I find the information that VMLite and VirtualBox are in any way connected. For me, the download page showed two clear and different options: A plugin to be used in VirtualBox, or an independent self running virtualization application VMLite.

Because I was trying to help another member in his issue (http://www.sevenforums.com/virtualization/71597-how-use-xp-7-same-time.html), I was trying to find a solution he could use on a computer that does not support virtualization technology. Therefore, only thinkable option to me was to download and test the full version.
