This process is so SLOW.

Strange. In fact I do not have a cracked copy - I have a legit copy which I purchased on online 23-08-2010. I have uninstalled DW CS5 as presumably I can easily re-install. I have manually deleted the "Dreamweaver CS5" directory too.

Please can you give me multiple tasks.

Now - what next?

No - Web Cake itself seems to have disappeared.
And scanning with BitDefender didnt find anything.

I wasnt not sure what else to check with so I re-installed SpyHunter 4 which say I have 3 threats:
- DoubleClick : C {DoubleClick} id.PH3EVJ3E.txt
- Media: C {Media} svid.1YHX45GY.txt
- Qksrv: C {Qksrv} S.XDXRRS1N.txt
However they are demanding money to remove the threats so given that I dont trust them I certainly have not paid.

None of those 'so called' threats show up in a search with Google. "Scare" tactic to get you to buy the product ;)

Uninstall SpyHunter and don't even think of using it again!!

Done :D

Any final scans I should run?

Out of interest, what Antivirus software do you use and why?

Fwiw, I am using BidDefender because although it seemed slightly expensive it got good reviews - esp for being fast/usable. I am on a trial version. I don't like it because it seems very un-responsive. Often it can take a number of seconds for anything to appear to happen when you click on things. Also little or no feedback when it's doing an update..

I want something reasonably priced that doesn't slow my PC down too much and which has a fairly user-friendly/responsive interface. The only thing I'd want to customize would be the frequency of updates and scans (e.g. every night at 3AM).

Also should I have something more than mere "Antivirus" software? I mean what about the firewall?

What version of Bitdefender are you using? If you have the "Internet Security" version, it comes with a two-way firewall. You won't need any other FW, such a Windows built in one. You can disable Windows FW in Services.

I'm running Avira Internet Security on 3 machines. I beta tested Microsoft Security Essentials, and it was good!

I also have Malwarebytes' (not running in realtime) and SpywareBlaster...kept updated. ;)

Thanks. Yes I'm currently using the "Internet Security" version of BitDefender. I am told it is very good at catching the nasties, but it doesnt seem to be very helpful in helping strip out (i.e. individually probably delete) email attachments in .PST archive files that need passwords...

Unfortunately MSE didnt get well reviewed in the recent reviews I saw and I have ditched it for now.
I'll have a look at SpywareBlaster.

I don't believe you will ever see a good reporting for Microsoft Security Essentials. All the other anti virus brands spend tons of money in many places in advertising money.
One does not want to slap the hand that feeds them.

This is what I use and have no problems.

*A router
*Windows built in Firewall
*Microsoft Security Essentials
*Malwarebytes Anti Malware Pro
*FileHippo Update Checker (on demand) once a day
*AdwCleaner on demand when needed
*Eset free online scan on demand if needed or once a month.
***I also try to keep my brain and mouse updated so it doesn't tick on the dumb things.

Layback Bear. Thanks for your input. Fwiw, I have been using
- a router,
- Windows built in firewall,
- email filtering for viruses & spam (by Symantec Cloud)
- Microsoft Security Essentials (updated regularly)
- Malwarebytes (on demand occasionally)
- Eset (on demand occasionally)
...and I it looks like I have been being murdered by viruses/trojans, notably Web Cake 3.0.

What is hugely disappointing is that Malware, Eset, MSE all failed to spot Web Cake even when I updated them and got them to specially scan looking for it.

The only one in your list I dont know is "FileHippo Update Checker". How does that fit in to your strategy?

> Are you still showing WebCake 3.0 ?
Not knowingly.

But I am now running a major scan with BitDefender. Strangely it has run a couple of scans without finding much and then when you ask it to scan particularly directories or files it takes it more seriously and starts finding stuff. One problem is that it is TERRIBLE at unzipping things, claiming that it doesn know the password. But mostly the files in question were never given passwords... !

What should I do about zipped files? BidDefender says I need to run a contextual scan and enter the password for each... the trouble is that there are about 158 of them. Some of which are part of applications...

Fwiw, I am currently running a scan across my one of my two external 1GB Iomega hard disk drives that I've been using for backups. So far it has found 159 threats and counting. I'm running it attached to my old laptop. It started fast but is slowing right up... been at 63% for what feels like 30 minutes!

I am very impressed by AdwCleaner. It keeps finding things that nothing else does.

More later.

P.S. e.g. BitDefender is now asking for the password for
C:\Windows\Installer\2dc5e8a.msi=>(Embedded CAB)=>X1Updater.dat
WTF? If I skip is this dangerous?

Or perhaps may i delete the file "C:\Windows\Installer\2dc5e8a.msi" ?

Please remember that different programs are designed to find and do different things.
That is why VistaKing and others request you to use different programs.
AdwCleaner is a great program for what it is designed to do.
No one security program does it all. If their was one that did do it all we all would be using it.

BidDefender would drive me crazy with all that password bull.

Do you use a torrent program?
