IE8 I guess cause I'm lazy. Once I've installed my OS and have all my programs installed I just like to leave it. Not much for testing different browsers. If it ain't broke I don't try and fix it. Fabe

Is there an extension that will kill gif animation for Chrome?

Haven't tried this but, here is one,

Pause! Pause! Pause!

Still not what I want, I want to permanently disable gif anims. Reading about extensions for Chrome really points out how the extension engine is more limited, like how they fight the engine to try to stop gif animations. Ad blocking doesn't block ads, but hides them, because the engine doesn't allow the extension to intervene until the element is already loaded.

This might explain why none of the chrome flashblock extensions are effective either.

@jsnxx I know what you mean about the FF updates. I really liked GigaGet download accelerator. But every couple of days FlashGot got updated and I had to make sure GigaGet was running or I'd have to uninstall it, then install it, if I updated FlashGot(over 90% of the time anyway.) I finally gave up and just went with FDM. I have to drag the link onto the drop box, but at least it's fast and works with everything.

It gets sometimes so I start FF, then by the time I update I forget where I was going to go with FF in the first place. Way too much of a distraction. Plus it's too slow loading off the HD. Those 2 combined and it's easy to get side tracked.

I use Firefox because of better security, add-on's like Ad Block Plus and Wot, and because it is faster than IE.

I used FF for years. I even tried earlier builds of Chrome and have tried Opera. I have also given each new build of IE a chance and tried using it unbiased. I always went back to FF until Chrome got extension support. Of course there won't be as many extensions as FF, because this is new for Chrome. Of course they won't be quite as good as FF add ons because developers are just now writing these extensions. Once I found AdBlock and the Gmail extension that I like, I have stuck with Chrome. I love the interface. I love how much of the page I see on my screen with Chrome. I especially love the speed. When I open Chrome, it just pops up and is on my home page in no time. FF I always have to wait a couple seconds for it to open and then a second more to be on my home page. More and more people are giving up FF for Chrome now that extensions are available, especially since FF since to be getting slower and slower. I think Mozilla has forgotten why people were choosing them over IE. FF is starting to bloat their browser and when 3.6 came out, I completely switched to Chrome. I hope future FF releases will get back to what FF stands for because I would definitely use it again if they do, but for now I am a Chrome user.

I honestly cannot tell any difference in sped between Chrome and FF - except for the initial load from the HD. Maybe that's because I have an older processor or because my ADSL is not blazing fast or both; I don't know. I do know I can certainly see the difference in speed between FF and IE or Chrome and IE.

@ MilesAhead. Now that must suck. I basically keep going back to Opera. It just runs so smooth i rarely even think of changing themes.

I liked Opera, but the lack of stuff like AutoCopy just goes against the grain. I like the Wand... 'cept for the fact that it keeps the info in clear text on your HD. It pissed me off enough that I wrote a small kludge to encrypt it while opera is not running. I made a wrapper app that decrypts the [personal info] info, launches Opera, then encrypts the info and writes it back when Opera closes. You can take a look here if you are interested: Faves Downloads

It's called RunOperaTen. They moved the .ini file where the Wand info is kept so it only works on Opera Ten or later. It's just a hack, not bullet proof security. But better than leaving it in plain text for sure.

(edit: btw if you don't use the Opera Wand tool, there's no use for the download. It's only for encrypting the Wand form fill data when not in use.)

But I really like this Iron I'm using. It jumps open when I click the icon. The only thing I don't like is the idea of syncing my bookmarks and passwords using a google server. I'm looking for something where I can use my ftp site.. like SyncPlaces for Firefox.
The other missing link is a replacement for Secure Login FF Addon. Iron only remembers one ID and PW for a site. Makes me type in my hotmail passwords which means I have to launch FF when I go there to avoid that.
