What do the language packs via microsoft update do?

I've just downloaded the language packs for Korean and Japanese language but have no idea on how am I going to use it. So, how usable are these language packs in Windows 7?

A language pack allows you to interact with applications in different lnguages than they were created. In some cases language packs also include fonts specific to that lanfuage. So if you don't speak Korean or Japanese, then they are useless to you.
