What to do/not do with Windows 7 on SSD?

Hi All,

My current PC has been setup using these extremely well written notes for relocation of User folders & ProgramData folder. This worked very easily & has given me no problems. I am however not sure if I actually got any benefit from it. There was 1 biggish downfall though - having moved ProgramData to HDD Windows 7 System Image must include both drives now in image (but too big) - so I use Paragon.

So now I've reviewed these 2 articles on Clean Windows 7 Install & SSD Install but I'm still a little unsure . Initially I was 'worried' that ProgramData, Pagefile, etc would create lots of read/writes to SSD & shorten its life. Is that worrying too much? I now read that moving Pagefile, turning off Superfetch, etc is just not necessary.

So new superfast PC & 256GB SSD on its way to me - thinking I might just do normal install of ALL OS to SSD (inc ProgramData, Pagefile, etc) & then just move User folders using Properties / Location off SSD. SSD space is no issue really.

Thoughts? I'm thinking that Windows 7 System Image should then just image SSD & not need HDD as well in image (but not sure about that).

Any feedback or other tutorials which may help would be greatly appreciated.

Just use a fixed size for your pagefile, like 1 or 2GB min/max and it should work great, everything else, leave it as is.

I would never move the paging or Program Files/Data off of the OS drive.

In addition we've learned that moving the User folders to another drive presents multiple complications. An easier method if you want your data partition separate for imaging purposes is to copy your User folders to data drive, then rightclick each to add to the related Library - Include a Folder.

You can add libraries like Downloads which surprisingly is not included by default and very important to collect all of your installers for backup for future reinstalls.
