What's the Best Anti-virus?

Its nice to read that people have different ideas about these programs. I am using MSE after I tried Avira and AVG, I gave up trying other programs and switched to MSE. It doesn't take much power and I can smoothly use other heavy programs for editing pictures and movies.

VIPRE Home Premium doesn't even appear to be present due to how light that is on resources. I run video captures, full screen games, and other programs without any problems while the active protection I have to say has surpassed that of others.

Even with instant messaging on Windows Live or social networks the protection will kick right in if something is detected,

That comes as no surprize since Comodo has always had a good rep across the board. And you noticed that once your internet securiry was increased you were far less prone to all sorts of malwares as a result.

yes but was is it not on the first post as comodo is brilliant i used eset and kaspersky and i got malware with them i think the worse was eset i got 100 malware before with it and yet comodo blocked some and i have been clean now for two years

My favorite setup is MSE combined with MBAM free. Also with Windows Firewall enabled which that firewall blows anyway, but it's better than having suite's using up a lot of your resources.

I have Norton 360 or Norton Internet security running on the machines in my house, none of which get bogged down during scans. They have come a long way with their software. Kaspersky would be my second chose though, also heard and seen a lot of good things from them.

I've been using for some years Outpost Security Suite. It had its ups and downs, but now reached a mature state, has pretty much everything I need and is quite advanced in its feature set. They also have a free version of the suite, but I haven't used it.

I used Eset Smart Security 4 about a year and I had no problem ,untill I tried MSE and i founf 2 trojans ,and they didnt removed (Maybe it was false positives I tried F secure olnine scan and it didnt find any thing )

You can, but it is not recommended because of possible conflicts, system instability etc. I remember though in the past, using more than one anti-spyware software was recommended. I wouldn't do it though. Anti-spyware software used to be more light-weight, but now in many cases they are merged with anti-virus solutions.

Generally speaking, multiple scanners are OK so long as only 1 of them is Real-Time.

Most conflicts occur when 2 or more programs are actively scanning in realtime and attempting to deal with a possible issue.



But if you only have Real Time AV (such as MSE or Norton) and a couple Anti-Spyware Programs that are On Demand scanners (such as Malwarebytes) there should be no conflicts.

I wouldn't run more than 1 AV though.
Just choose one you are comfortable with, and pair it with a good OnDemand scanner to run once a week.

I am using three anti spyware programs and so far I haven't had any problems from their side. Though I believe the antiviruses are looking at more sensitive areas of a system, probably at the same time, and maybe their different algorithms will make the system run slower. But from what Baxxter said its interesting to hear his side of the story.

I have been using AVG for a number of years but they have moved their call centre to India! If you have a problem they offer support via www.virgindigitalhelp.co.uk Eighty five pounds for a years full remote suport, and that's after you have paid your licence fee of twenty pounds (approx). I am sure their technicians are fully qualified but with the financial situation as it is, I cannot afford that kind of money, and for someone who has a big hearing problem, it is very hard to understand what they are saying whilst on the telephone.

My current licence doesn't expire until 20 - 12 - 2012 so I have a while to go but meantime, I shall be trying out other programmes. I found the article on anti virus programmes very interesting and a good read. Thank you very much TW33K.

My laptop just got recently infected by trojans while I was on Vipre AV Premium, sso I did some research and found that Norton Internet Security 2012 is really good so I switched to that, installed Malwarebytes, and SuperAntispyware, ran dozen of scans with all three programs until all the trojans had been removed and the programs returned clean results on my laptop. So I am guessing my laptop is clean now.

Haha I'm kinda paranoid when it comes to viruses. Turns out my computer is not clean and there is still malware because I keep getting redirected to spam sites in Google search. I need help.

MBAM usually takes over an hour.
SAS about the same time.

Then do this.....
System Files - SFC Command - Vista Forums

Yes I usually run ful scans atm I am running full scans using SAS,MBAM,and Microssoft safety scaner in safe mode. When it is done I will try ur recommendation thanks for your help. Also it looks like its a problem with my registry cuz I remember I used ccleaner to fix registry errors and then that's when the spam started showing up.

If you used CCleaner registry tool without backing up, as it gives you that option,
you may want to try a system restore back to when thing were running smoothly.
Never run any registry cleaner unless you know exactly what you are doing.
