And this speed gets better or worse throughout the day, apparently depending on how many people are using telephone lines :sarc:

EDIT: That is the nearest server to me. Check out one from New Zealand!

good thing I don't spend 90$ a month then ;)

Oh i'm sorry, the 50Mpbs package is 139.95 a month, the basic service is 64.99 if you don't count those lame bill back options. I assume your only paying for the standard, if your getting a better deal then good for you. The price just seems kind of high to me considering I'm already getting over 25Mbps for 40 a month. They still don't have this service in my area.

FIOS is new in my area (had it maybe 3 months) the highest speed they offered was 35/35 so the bottom line is I was getting phone, internet, TV from Comcast cost me around 180$ before taxes and phone, internet, TV, and wireless is costing me around 195$ before taxes. So for around 20$ more a month with more HD and better internet I went with FIOS. If in 2 years Comcast offers me a better deal I'll go with them it makes no difference to me.

Competiton is good so keep an eye out when FIOS is offered in you area because that is the best time to get a good deal

In ohio, the ISP we kinda "have" to use, increased our speeds and didn't increase our bill....lol....surprising huh?

It was 10 mb DL for like 60 a month, and 5 for 35 a month. Now, those of us that had 5 went up to 10, and the 10 went to 20.....I think. My brother has the fastest one we can get, and speedtest.net almost hit 20 with it.

I still cannot believe some of the speeds I'm seeing. Like, some right in PA, just a few miles from me. (The PA boarder is a 1/2 hour from where I am) and I HOPE the speeds are making their way over to MEEEEE!!!! :p

THATS THE PROBLEM WITH BROADBAND SERVICE IN THE USA!!!

WE WOULD NEVER STAND FOR THE GROCERY STORE SELLING US "UP TO A DOZEN" EGGS. Yet, we accept this pricing strategy from our telecoms and ISPs! These ISPs spend millions lobbying in Washington, but we pay higher prices than nearly every country in the world for Broadband! And our average speeds are lower!

Our country is severly lagging behind the rest of the world in broadband speed, pricing, and penetration... Something needs to be done before we lose our tech edge!

In the UK Virgin came out best on that measure earlier this year, probably because its internet is via fiber optic cable.
