my friend gets virgin from maidenhead and he pays the lowest rate and averages 8 Mb/s:confused:

Yes... if you have Web Shield enabled, it chokes your speed... Mine would decrease by almost 50% sometimes, to @25-26mb/sec ... its a known problem... disable Web Shield, and the speed returns to normal...

Chrome does seem a bit faster, IE9 seems about the same, which is fast.

Noticed something 'funny' when I installed IE9, Chrome was faster.

Compitition is a good thing, didn't realize browser improvement happened that quick ;)

Not the fastest in the world but certainly a lot better than dial-up. I find it amazing that a person living across the street from me can get FiOS for less money than I'm paying for DSL. But I'm outside the FiOS service area.

My latest Brighthouse (cable) test, this morning, is 31494 kbps downlink and 1797 kbps uplink. This is just the ISP link speed test.

I remember when we had 4.8 kbps "high speed" trunk lines in 1974 with the SSA on-line network system between the regional "concentrator sites" and the HQ data center (and 1200 BAUD lines from the SSA offices to the regional concentrator sites).
