Hello,
I created an account because I need specific help with this problem.

Recently, I suddenly got a "Build 7601 - This copy of Windows is not genuine" on my Acer laptop. I have been using it for two years and this is the first time it happened.

I've been searching everywhere on the internet and this MGA report seems to be important in determining the problem.

What I have tried until now (not chronologically):
- Using keyfinder program to get my serial key, inputted it, but I get the message saying it is a default product key. I use the program because the number on my COA sticker has worn off. Actually, this is the first time I noticed the attached COA sticker on the bottom of my laptop, but there seems to be some trace of something written on it, so I assumed whatever was there has worn off.
- Check my update list, found KB3004394 installed (installed on 15 feb 2015), downloaded KB3024777-amd64.exe (my windows is x64), but when I clicked the exe file, nothing happened. Tried rebooting, but when I retried clicking the file, still nothing happened.
- I also rebooted a few times after each of the previous two, but still nothing changed.

Just in case, until just before I wrote this post, I can still see KB3004394 and no KB3024777 in my list of installed updates.

I'm sorry if there is anything inappropriate for this forum in this post.
Please help.

It states it's a default key because that is what it is and it will never activate.

If you can't read the Microsoft COA sticker I know of no way to retrieve the key from your system.

Don't give up because their might be another member who does. Just hang in there.

The installed Key is the Default Key for Windows 7 Pro - and can NEVER be activated.

For what version and edition of Windows is your machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

To make sure you are looking at the proper tag; it should look something like this. It also might be in the battery compartment.

I don't know how to answer that, because it has worn off (very?) badly.

I haven't taken a look inside the battery compartment because I read somewhere that it's not supposed to be attached to two different parts of the laptop. I'll check later since I'm writing this from the library.

Odd - I was expecting you to tell me that there was no COA sticker, as the MGADiag report shows no signs of a SLIC table.
This could imply that the machine has had a BIOS update applied which has over-written the SLIC table.
It may be worth contacting ACER to see if they can help - but at the moment, I can't see any realistic alternative to a new license, or a new computer :( I'm pretty sure that MS's response if you ask them will be that there's no proof that the machine is licensed.

Is contacting a different ACER store from where I bought the laptop makes any difference? Because I'm currently abroad and still waiting for my family's help to contact the store in my home country.

For additional info, I restarted my laptop a few days ago (had a blue screen actually ), and when it restarted was when I first got the message, along with Windows 10 notification, I think.

Oh, and I didn't find any tag in the battery compartment.

Try contacting ACER themselves, - the store almost certainly won't be able to help.

In the meantime, can someone tell me why it says
Code:
WGA Data--> Validation Status: Invalid License
Validation Code: 50
?

I compared with other's result I found on the internet, and it seems mine is the only one with that line.

If my key is somehow doubtful, why is the the notification showed up now, and not in the 2 years I've been using this laptop? Btw, I've been getting Windows updates regularly. I may not have restarted my laptop regularly, but I'm pretty sure I've been shutting it down a few times between February 2015 and before I got the notification.

The '50' response simply means that there is a defined error in the report - nothing more.

The problem is almost certainly caused by something wiping the area of BIOS containing the Product Key SLIC table - it may be physical damage, or the result of a BIOS update.

Thank you, that narrows down the problem for me.

I'm pretty sure I didn't tamper with the BIOS myself in any way, so could it be helpful for me to do a disk check?
