Why should, or shouldn't, I get Comcast?

Hi all. :)
I'm currently on a Verizon DSL plan, with 1.5 down (it's crap, i know :p) and I'm not totally happy with the service. The connection drops constantly (it has good days and bad).
And their's so much more stuff that I don't even want to bring up. lol

Anyways, I'm just tired of their crappy service and don't want it any more.
I'm thinking of going to a cable internet service, that why we get a supposed higher bandwidth, plus we can get a better cable tv plan, and the best provider around here is Comcast.
I've had some worries about cable internet, exspecially Comcast.

1st off, I know that cable internet is a shared line, so the more people around you with cable internet, the slower it can be. But, I'm pretty sure most everyone around me has Verizon DSL anyways.
I originaly choose DSL, since it's a deticated line, and isn't effected by other's use.

2nd, the famed Comcast download cap. 250GB a month is great, and I don't think I would surpase it, but you never know.

So my question to you guys is, why should (or shouldn't) I get Comcast?
-Those with it, are you happy with the service over all?
-Has the 250GB cap ever been a problem for you?
-Those with a cable ISP, does is slow down noticably when a lot of people around you are online?

Please help me make my choice :D

As a former verizon DSL customer and now comcast quick change over dont ever go back.
My major problems w verizon were speed (it was pitiful) and constant dropping service.

Comcast is 8Mb down (actually I get 9.4 down) and 1.5 up. not great but OK. the shared service thing is rarely (if ever a problem) and its only a problem to the comcast router nearest to you. the worst it has ever been for me was when michael jackson died. My speed went to 6.4 mb down and 750Kb up. It recovered quickly. comcast service and support are also better

I'm using Comcast, Digital Cable/Digital Voice/Cable Internet.

My area is 100% Comcast internet since they own it...

I could get MediaCom for like $9 a month but that's 1 mile out of my jurisdiction where Comcast controls.

Having said that my area is 100% Comcast, I've had NO problems with other users being online at same time, it's just that Firefox seems to bog down download speeds while IE7/IE8 actually takes advantage of the speed (ie. Firefox Download Manager throttles to 300kbps while IE7/IE8 goes to 1.2MBps)

I play online gaming constantly, most notably Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Multiplayer "SA-MP" and I've had no issues.

I've yet to experience ANY downtime from Comcast.

If you go with Digital Voice too, be warned that if the cable is down, the phone lines go too.

it's sounding better :)
Have you ever had the torrent problem that the above post mentioned?
Or did you use a one of the bypass methods?

I have no problems with BitTorrent traffic, I set encryption to either Enabled or Forced and tweak the settings where I can get 2MBps download speeds and 300kbps upload.

good, I use IE, and love it to death :p
I probly won't get digital voice too, I have no reason for a phone line. Is that the only thing that the digital voice is for?

"I set the encryption to either Enabled or Forced" that's exactly why you have no problems with it, because you are hiding it for your ISP. But a normal non-technical person would have big BitTorrent problems.

I'm sure you won't, but it does mean you have to tweak a lot of internet\torrent settings in order to get your full download speed.

The Digital Voice plan is phone line but relies on cable internet to work.

7 Email Addresses .. and 7 personal Web Pages at 1GB each.
I use my web pages for several things.

I like Comcast .. but it seems like you have to nag about pricing alot.
We're about ready to make another trip to complain and see if they'll drop the price again.

If you have problems .. you may have to call several times ..
till you get someone who knows what they're taking about.

My first build!
FWIW .. I refuse to use Cable Phone.
My AT&T landline costs me ~$19 mth.
If I use the house phone for LD .. I use a Sams card at ~.04/min.

I also have an old phone, not wireless, so I can call even if the power goes down.
I know someone who's house burned down .. because they also lost power and couldn't call 911.

What exactly do you mean about the pricing? Do they raise your personal bill?

haha, yea, that's with pretty much any place. It's alomst impossible to get someone who knows what they're talking about, let alone someone who can speak and understand english (at least with verizon :p)
The only reason I've ever had to call was to see if I could drop the modem from the bill. Ironic that they don't even know what and ISR is... lol

YES.
Then we go to the office and complain about all the ads for cheaper rates.
They usually lower the price .. Then it starts all over again in about a year.

Kinda like .. if you too bashfull to complain .. They'll stick it to you.
The only thing made in this country anymore .. Is scams.
