WiFi Connection stops working

Hi everyone,
I have a laptop ASUS (2009 model) with Windows 7 OS.
It has been working perfectly without any problem until suddenly my Wifi stops working.
I still have the WiFi symbol on the toolbar but grey with a red cross,

When I switch on the laptop the led on the keyboard that indicates WiFi, blinks once and quickly, and after that is off. On the toolbar I can see that by default Windows try to connect by using cable that cannot find (since I have not cable connection) and then immediately appears the wifi symbol with the red cross.


I have tried almost everything:


1.reboot the laptop
2.diagnostic and fix problems

3.update drivers

4.reset the network settings by command prompt
5.modify wireless network adapter parameters via Registry

6.restore Windows 7 to a previous date


Can someone help me with better ideas and ways to sort this problem out?

Have you tried disabling the unused Ethernet?, you may even need to uninstall any loaded drivers.

there should be no need to do any of this but in your case it may be a way to take control manually of the system ...

There is a Metric that is applied to the various network connections, I regularly use both Ethernet and Wifi on systems and it is possible to prioritize one over the other, normal is to set the wired Ethernet as the priority as this is generally the most reliable but it should not take priority when not connected of course

To manually take control

Go to the Network Connections page [Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections]

Right click on network to change [Wifi]
Select network interface in use, usually IPv4
select properties and then advanced
At the bottom of the tab page is the box to enter the Metric
Uncheck automatic and enter a number to set priority [The lower the metric number means higher priority, and a higher number indicates lower priority]

This should select the prioritize windows selection process.

Repeat for other Network [Ethernet]

I' do not have a VM of Win7 Running on this system to check that the instructions are correct but I think they are

Unfortunately, on win7 I cannot see any possibility to set the priority of the connections but I can only insert manually the IP address.

Anyway, what are those for which the priority has to be set at low level?
Moreover, in device manager under the network adapters I found: real family controller in addition to the intel centrino n100. What is this family controller?

I am surprised that you cannot find the Metric entry as this dialog has been part of the network settings since NT 3.5, it's located out of the way as it is only required very infrequently, mostly in complex network systems where a PC could be fitted with multiple network controllers which need prioritizing. I suggested the change to priorities in your case as it's the "lesser" of the options

Anyway ...

On my last system I can remember having a wired network card called "Realtek family controller" so the device you have may well be an Ethernet controller,

It may be worth disabling this in the device manger and see if the change make a difference to your issue. Just my opinion but I believe that the issue is due to the Ethernet controller "bumping the" WiFi controller of its place, which it should not do unless it is connected and has a higher priority in the system - disabling the Ethernet controller should prevent this.

Hi Barman58, even like that it does not work.
The error message now is saying that the radio module is switched off:sarc:

I am just thinking to remove Win7 and install Ubuntu...

If you Disabled the "Real family controller" and the WiFi stopped working, saying it is switched off, then the "Real family controller" is the WiFi controller, the Ethernet controller must be something else, It should be in the vicinity of the "Real family controller"
