Win 7 64bit SP 1 installation error - Code 800F0818

If they were checked and greyed out, that almost certainly means that permissions for the whole ...\Packages\ key have been altered at some time - which is probably when this error crept in.


The CheckSUR report is still the same - did you get any error message when you ran the command afterwards?


Please run the following command again and post the results. -

No I didn't get any error messages but while running the command it prompted whether I wanted to overwrite it, I typed Y

I ran this recent command you gave and it gave an Invalid Key error

Duh?? that's the same command we ran earlier!

Please open Regedit and navigate to the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages
key
right-click on 'Packages' and select Export
save as CBSex.reg
(it may take a while!)
compress the resulting file, and attach it to your response.

OK - I think I see the problem (and it's my fault, partly)

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command....

REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2685811_SP1~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.11" /v InstallName /t REG_SZ /d update.mum

Then run another CheckSUR and we'll see where we are.

Just as well - I think what's there is actually the correct version!

The system may have been updating everything and so locked it.
Please run the query again

I can find no reference to "Microsoft-Windows-EmbeddedCore-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7601.17514" in my registries anywhere -either on a RTM machine updated or on a SP1 machine updated.

I can find no reference to it in your CBSex file - so I'm hoping it's going to be in the COMPONENTS hive.
