Windows 7 - SP 1 Install Error: Trust_E_NOSIGNATURE(0x800b0100)

Have tried unsuccessfully to install SP1 for Windows 7 x64 system on my PC on numerous occasions. Decided to try and solve problem once and for all and have scoured the forum which appears to have offered helpful advice to other people with similar difficulties.

I have downloaded and installed System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) and I have run a SFC Scan - I hope that I have attached the relevant CBS logs.

I then tried yet again to install KB976932 and the installation stopped and showed the error code TRUST_E NOSIGNATURE(0x8006010).

Hello and welcome 7Hobbit mate is this a machine you have built? If so what 7 OS did you use an old one or one you have just bought because SP1 should be on the CD with the OS. Can you also confirm if the OS if you installed it is an OEM or retail.

The machine is about3.5 yrs old now, I bought it spec from TigerDirect. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Can you also confirm if the OS if you installed it is an OEM or retail.

It is OEM version.

This is the machine I use at home and I just have never had time to work this out. Now I want to get it fixed and it's really bugging me. It seems that others with this issue are downloading some replacement files? Seems like this is a fairly common issue with Win 7. I would really rather not have to re-install if it can be avoided... Well H I personally get all my data backed up onto an external or something first.

If they didn't give you a disk (CD) then they might ahve set it up like a lot of factory jobs and they set up a partition that you do what is known asa factory default - power on and tap a certain F key what ever they say it is.

Now that is for the situation where you might have to reinstall.

Now how about you disable the security for the time it takes for you to try that
KB 947821 see what happens. Just as a matter of curiosity what is your security because some can be really quite pedantic.

I'm running Avast which I've totally disabled several times, rebooted without it running and tried the update and I've also disabled the windows firewall. I still get the same outcome with the SP1 installation.

YOu have some fairly major problems - a number of missing MUM files in CheckSUR - although your CBS log appears clear. Luckily, they are all from the same patch, so the solution will be fairly simple.

I've uploaded a file - hobpackages.zip - to my SkyDrive at https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21526
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder hobpackages in the same place.

Open this folder - there should be a Packages folder inside it

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
folder

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Great - that seems to have fixed the errors.
As a cross-check, please run an SFC /SCANNOW - if it reports all clear, then try Windows Updates again (otherwise, post the new CBS.log file)

CheckSUR can only fix problems when it has the necessary files available - If it was able to repair everything, it would be a multi-GB download.
Manual assistance is required in cases where the tool hits the buffers
The trick is knowing where to get the necessary files, and how to get them where they are needed.

Ok, ran sfc, no problems,
Ran SP1, fell asleep, woke up and wham bam! Installed!

Everything running smoothly this morning! I'm not sure what kind of Santa Claus magic you did last night creeping around my computer, but it's working! Thank you very very much! This issue has been troubling me for a long time now. Awesome!
