I tried under F8 ===> Repair Computer===> Command Prompt ===> Works OK

Here is the result:

- Boot with Last Known Good Configuration (F8 menu) ===> Black screen with cursor in the middle
- Restore to a prior date (System Restore) - System Restore ====> Already reported in previous reply
- Try a clean startup Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup results in

Clean Start up

D:\Windows\System32>runas /user:administrator msconfig
Enter the password for administrator:
Attempting to start msconfig as user "MININT-84TH5FG\administrator" ...
RUNAS ERROR: Unable to run - msconfig
1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

- Try loading defaults in BIOS - F2, f9, f10 ===> Black screen with cursor in the middle

Follow SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker ====> Already reported the outcome No [SR] tag with errors

Check if explorer.exe is running and start from CTRL+ALT+DEL (task manager - new task) ===> CTRL+ALT+DEL not responding

- Scan for malware (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free) yet to try. Will this find something, that was not found in Windows Defender offline? Do I able to run this from USB as offline?

Thanks for your input.

Update.

I tried with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64

I am attaching FRST.txt for your review.

I tried your steps. Do you mind, sharing your insight? What is happening here?

I did the Fix using Farbar Recovery Scan Tool. It created Fixlog.txt

I booted the computer in normal mode. ====> Same situation Black screen with cursor in middle.

I ran the scan using Farbar Recovery Scan Tool . It created FRST.txt I am attaching both FRST.txt, & Fixlog.txt for your insight. :geek:

Is this situation caused by infection (virus/malware), Hardware issue, BIOS, Memory etc? It will help others as well.

My apologies for the delay. You caught me at a bad time when you posted to that other topic to get my attention. Just too many irons in the fire.

This could be caused by any number of things you mentioned above.

Thanks for looking into my issue among too many irons in the fire. I asked that question to learn about source/cause, so I can keep away from that source upon fixing this issue. I did not install any new device or open any email attachments. My son was playing video games from sites such as Steam clients, team speak, chrome, & counter strike etc. Youtube videos :(

As per your suggestion, I am attaching the fixlog.txt for your insight. :geek:

Thanks for helping.

Hello, MDRI. Here is almost everything that can be done when Windows fails to Boot. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219533-troubleshooting-windows-7-failure-boot.html

Do you have a repair CD or an installation DVD? You can copy your personal files to an external hard drive http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

Otherwise you can do the same with a live Linux CD http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/287439-emergency-kit-save-your-files-dead-os.html

Try running sfc /scannow again. You may have to run it up to 3 times with attempted reboots between each time.

If you can do the recovery with either method, while doing that please go to C:/Windows/Minidump and copy the folder. Zip it up and upload it with your next post. In the recovery environment your hard drive may not be listed as C. Just look for your Operating System drive.

You can also try to boot to the recovery CD and in command prompt try typing this and press enter between each command, then try to boot:
Code:
C:\Boot
bootrec /FixMbr
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBcd

We can try System Restore and msconfig (if they will work) via Lazesoft boot CD. Msconfig first though. I will have to make the CD and boot with it to guide you accurately.

@Steve: do you think this can be considered unable to boot? I would say it is black screen of death (OP can boot to login screen but it is black with mouse pointer)

MDRI: can you hear the sound that would play when login screen loads?

Thanks for your suggestions.

@essenbe,

I do not have Repair CD or Installation CD.

As I posted earlier sfc /scannow was not working from F8 ==> Repair Computer ==> Command Prompt.

I ran extended sfc /scannow , but the log file did not have any [SR] tag with error. I uploaded the logfile earlier.

Update

As I mentioned, I have access only using F8 ===> Repair Computer===> Command Prompt ===> Works OK

All other opens leads to black screen with cursor in the middle.

My OS drive is D:

As I do not have a repair CD, I tried your suggestion in F8 ===> Repair Computer===> Command Prompt

Code:
[B]I ran d:\windows sfc/scannow ===> I got[/B]

[B]Beginning system scan. This process will take some time[/B]

[B]There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run it again.[/B]
[B]I did this [/B]

[B]step 4 times. I am getting the same. It did not create Minidump file in d:\windows[/B]

Awaiting for your suggestions

@GokAy

As I reported earlier, I did find System Restore and msconfig on created Lazesoft boot CD. I find the bootCrash TAB talk about black screen of death , but it did not mentioned, what steps to run from Lasersoft Windows Recovery(LWR) screen

I am not able to hear the sound that would play when login screen loads.

I am able to find start menu.

I did run==> msconfig from LWR start menu ==> I got "Failed to launch msconfig"

Restore Point ====> nothing is happening

Thanks for helping.:geek:

I don't know if this will work or not. But try to download the repair disk ISO from this link. Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc ? MAXIMUMpcguides ? Windows 7 tips, tricks, help, and how-to guides, that is an option. If you have another computer, or a friend with another computer with the exact same operating system as yours, the same bit ( X86 or X64) and the same SP1 installed or SP1 not installed, whichever yours is. That computer can be used to make a repair disk that will work on your computer. If they have the exact same installation disk, that can be used on your computer for repairs or to reinstall the OS if needed.

Please fill out your system specs. This may help

We ask that you fill them out in as much detail as possible including Desktop or Laptop, Model number if it is an OEM computer and all components with the Manufacturer and Model number if possible.

If you will go to your last post and click the 'System Specs' in the bottom left of the post, you will find a link to update your system specs. Please fill those out in as much detail as possible, making sure to click save at the bottom of the page. If you would like to know what we would like, you can click 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of this post to see mine. If you do not know what your components are, this will help you accomplish this task. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

If you can, please go to a command prompt and type diskpart and press enter, when the computer replies diskpart, type list disk and press enter. Please upload a cell phone picture of that screen or any picture just good enough where we can read it. Each disk is numbered on the left. Determine which hard drive is your OS drive, and for example if it is disk # 0(substitute the disk number for whatever number your OS disk is). type select disk 0 and press enter. it will reply disk 0 is the selected disk. Type list partition and press enter and upload a screenshot of that too. then type exit and press enter then repeat the exit command,We will see if that will help.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am not able to use this forum's systeminfo.exe.

I am getting "The subsystem needed to support image type is not present"

I used the default command line systemInfo. I updated the info in My system spec.

As my laptop is not fully operational, it did not list other info such as graphic card etc.

I am attaching the doc with diskpart, Systeminfo for your review.

I am not sure, why diskpart list the FREE memory as 0. Is it the one cause this issue?

Thanks for your insight/help.

Have you ever changed anything in BIOS? Also, do you have 2 physical hard drives or 1 1.5TB hard drive in your laptop

I did change the booting device like CD/USB etc. I put it back to regular HDD now. Apart from this I did not change anything.

Why did you ask?

Your BIOS is set to the wrong time zone, which means something is wrong in bios. You are set to the default Pacific time UTC - 8:00. You should be set to Eastern Time [US and Canada) UTC-5:00. That means something has changed the BIOS settings. Please go into bios and find your sata controller and tell me what mode it is set to (IDE, AHCI or Raid). Check your Boot order and tell me what it is set to. I also edited my post above to ask if you have 2 physical hard drives in your Laptop. Once you answer those questions, I am going to have you reset bios to defults. The sata mode is important. If it is set wrong, it will not boot. So, I need to know that first. Some of the OEM computers, it is pretty well hidden. You may have to look around pretty good to find it or it may be pretty obvious. It will usually say something like sata mode or sata configuration or something close to that.
