Thanks again. My BIOS Configuration says.

I am not able to see pacific time setting in BIOS. Where did you get that info?

I find the command prompt

Date : 8/10/2015
Time : 17:50:30:46 ====> It is sync with Eastern time. I am not sure, where did systeminfo pick the date & time zone from.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for helping.

I assumed it picked it up from BIOS, but it could have picked it up from the OS.

MDRI, I believe you are going to have to have an installation disk to either repair it or reinstall Windows. Your system specs do not say which version of Windows you have. You can borrow one from a friend that has a Windows 7 X64 and the same version of windows you have (Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate).

We can try running Seatools for DOS to check your hard drive http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313457-seatools-dos-windows-how-use.html#Part3
and Check disk http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html

I would first like you to go into BIOS and set it to optimized defaults. Check the sata controller and make sure it is in the same mode it is in now, set your boot options to the hard drive windows is installed on, save and exit.

After resetting bios, as a test, please download a Linux Live ISO file and brn it to a CD. Boot from that and run it for a while to see if it operates correctly. If it does, it will tell us you have a driver problem and not a hardware problem.

You can also use the Linux disk to copy/paste your personal files to an external source. Let me know how that cones out.

I got the OS along with laptop as preinstalled. They did not provide a CD. When It was working OK, I know it showed as Windows 7, SP1, 64bit. Does sea tools help to find version of Windows I have?

Is there any command prompt command to find that out?

When I press F2, it shows

The SATA controller now(AHCI) (SATA Controller Working mode AHCI),
Boot options as 1 ATA HDD.

Where is in BIOS to point the hard drive windows is installed on?

How do I set it to optimized defaults in BIOS?

Thanks for your guidance .

You may only have 1 hard drive, but there is usually something like hard drive BBS or something like that. There is usually a menu telling you how to set the bios to defaults, which is how it came from the factory. If you have an optimized defaults, select that.

Hi MDRI,

Follow essenbe's advice. He knows what he's talking about. My next suggestion would have been the Seatools for DOS as he suggested to make sure that the HDD is in good condition. If it is, you might have the opportunity to restore back to factory condition (as is out of the box when you bought the laptop) since FRST displays what appears to be the recovery partition as being intact. Strange that it is located on the e: drive. It is usually located on d:. Maybe essenbe could enlighten me here with his knowledge.

See below:
==================== Drives ================================

Drive c: (Windows7_OS) (Fixed) (Total:653.44 GB) (Free:389.66 GB) NTFS ==>[system with boot components (obtained from reading drive)]
Drive e: (LENOVO) (Fixed) (Total:25.47 GB) (Free:8.52 GB) NTFS

I checked another computer . It says

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
OS Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation

C:\>ver

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

The laptop that has issue shows

D:\Windows\System32>ver

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

for some reason it is not picking up the OS Name :(

I downloaded the SeaTools for DOS and Windows and run test . I find only one (1) drive. It did not find any error.

I am attaching the screen shot of result. :geek:

As I mentioned, I have access only using F8 ===> Repair Computer===> Command Prompt ===> Works OK

All other opens leads to black screen with cursor in the middle.

My OS drive is D:

As I do not have a repair CD, I tried your suggestion in F8 ===> Repair Computer===> Command Prompt

Code:
I ran d:\windows sfc/scannow ===> I got

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time

There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run it again.
Is there a way to override this system repair pending stuff?

It did not create Minidump file in d:\windows

so I ran in repair computer options using

Code:
1) sfc /scannow /offbootdir=x:\ /offwindir=D:\windows

2) sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=D:\windows
I am attaching the zip file that contain CBS.LOG & [SR] tag extract (xxx.txt).
I did not any find ERRORS there, SFC ended with message saying "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" . It is misleading. There is no [SR] tag pointing to corrupt files.

I did not find minidump in d:\windows after this sfc run.

I find some message as "00007bff [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction
00007c01 [SR] Cannot repair member file "

Diskpart List

Code:
DISKPART> list volume

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info

I find onekey recovery button in my laptop. I am attaching the piece that talk about this button & onekey recovery process.

Please review this piece & let me know whether it could help us. :geek:

I have asked for someone to look at the CBS files. For some reason I cannot open the Recovery.pdf file. But, if you can get the recovery to work, it will restore your computer to the factory state. So, you need to recover all of your personal files first. You will need an Installation disk, a Repair disk or a Live Linux CD/USB drive and an external hard drive.

OK I got the .pdf file to open. It looks pretty simple, if it works. Have you made a system image to recover from in the past? if so, you can recover from it, or if not you can recover back to the way the Laptop came from the factory.

You can download drivers, Manual, Bios updates and several other things from here. Laptops and netbooks :: IdeaPad Z Series laptops :: IdeaPad Z580 - Lenovo Support (US)

As far as I can tell, there's no problems showing in the SFC results.
I have seen this type of false-positive elsewhere, and if I remember right it related more to permissions/ownership than anything else - I rather suspect that it wouldn't happen in a normal-mode SFC scan.

I forgot to include screenshot (WP_20150811_23_00_51_Pro.jpg). Here you go.

I downloaded the SeaTools for DOS and Windows and run test . I find only one (1) drive. It did not find any error.

I am attaching the screen shot of result. :geek:

I have not made a system image to recover from in the past.

I have added additional software/tools after getting this laptop. How do I back it up & sync after restore/reinstall?

I do not have CD to reinstall. How do I go about then?

Thanks for guidance.

You need to run the long test. The short test will pass many times when there is a problem with the drive.

Thanks . I am running Long Test. It looks like, it is going to take awhile. I will post the screen shot as it done.

I just started a laptop for this test. It says temperature is above 70 degrees in sea tools dialog. Is it a matter of concern?

Do you need to run any other test with Sea tools after finishing Long test?

I ran CHKDSK /F /X for C, D, E yesterday. All resluted to "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems."

As I reported earlier, I ran d:\windows sfc/scannow ===> I got

Code:
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time

There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run it again.
Is there a way to override this system repair pending stuff? :geek:

It did not create Minidump file in d:\windows

Will
Minidump will tell us different story outside of CBS.log? :geek:

Awaiting for your insight .

A minidump may tell us more. They don't always, but many times do. But, if you are not creating minidumps, that isn't an option. As far as I am aware, there is no way to override the system repair pending, other than the laptop to boot. If Seatools is saying the hard drive is 70C, then that is way too hot, but there is nothing that can be done other than shut it down. Make sure the vents are not blocked and put it on a laptop cooler if you have one.

Thanks again. I did reboot many times & tried SFC /SCANNOW, but system repair pending was not going away.

Where does it pick up this condition from? Is it from registry?

Is there a mechanism/tool to clear this system repair pending?

So, you do not want to run anymore test using sea tools after finishing Long Test?

No more tests will be necessary with seatools. It picked this up from the repairs you have done. it did not boot into the operating system, unless you haven't told me.
