Win 7 Crash During Sleep

I bought and installed Win 7 (64 bit) on a recent (18 month old) Toshiba Core-2-Duo laptop. I was running Vista 32 bit before without any problems.

The one problem I seem to have frequently (every 4 or 5 days typically) is that Windows will crash will in sleep mode (usually around 4 in the morning) and then reboot.

I have a memory dump file that was generated this morning (it is the related file shown under the Reliability Monitor) but it is very large. Here is the Reliability Monitor message:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000ea (0xfffffa8006683b60, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 120709-26972-01.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Please try this:

Please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service - then post the link to it.
Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): Set MiniDump

Thank you kindly. Here is the dump file. I thought the memory dump file would be far too large to upload so I appreciate the guidance to upload this one.

By the way, I happened to notice in the reliability monitor that MS Security Essentials usually (but not always) runs an update shortly after these system crashes. This may not be related, but it seems kind of odd. Typically it runs 11 minutes after the crash, but sometimes sooner and sometimes as much as an hour or so later.

I dunno about the Security Essentials thing, but consider it unlikely to be related. It may just be that it's scheduled to run 11 minutes after the system starts?

The error is related to your video sub-system (dxgkrnl.sys).
So the first thing would be to...
- download the latest version of your video drivers from the ATI website (only download the driver, not the entire Catalyst Control Center).
- uninstall the ATI stuff using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
- install the driver that you downloaded.
- monitor for further BSOD's.

Thanks usasma. I actually had already updated the video drivers, but will try again. However, I DID install the whole catalyst control center when I installed the drivers. Is this not advisable? It seems there is some useful functionality there in the control center.

I will check the other drivers you mention as well. I have been on Toshiba's website over the past few weeks and have installed pretty much every conceivable driver available for Win7 64 bit.

The problem is still occurring - it just (a half hour ago) failed to restart from sleep (black screen) so I:

• forced shutdown by holding the power button
• It restarted and it ran checkdisk, then went into windows.
• I uninstalled a fingerprint reader program (it was giving me an annoying prompt to register), then the system froze (taskbar and all desktop items disappeared) and only the wallpaper showed.
• I forced a re-start, booted into safe mode, shut down from safe mode, and restarted.

All seems OK now but there is no Windows error showing in the reliability monitor for this latest event, although it shows in the "event viewer" and a Minidump file is attached.

I appreciate your assistance but also do understand you may not have the time to check every minidump file for every person who has a Win 7 issue.

You can visit Realtek's website for the latest network driver since yours is outdated.

Your video card driver from ATI is old. Please install the latest from their site in the normal method after updating these 2 previous drivers. No cleaning, previous removal or special method needed.

I have seen some issues with the Catalyst Control Center. As such I don't suggest installing it (especially when troubleshooting). If you'd like to use it, please install it once we've finished troubleshooting your problems.

In short, troubleshooting (in part) involves removing troublesome stuff so that we don't have to worry about it's affect on the system.

I will try these steps and report the results. The problem is intermittent (every few days) so it may take a week before I can assume that the problem is "cured".

Also, I can't seem to locate some of the updated drivers although I would have thought they would have been included in a number of updates I installed from Toshiba.

Can't find these despite googling and checking Toshiba's website:
- TVALZ_O is a "TOSHIBA ACPI-Based Value Added Logical and General Purpose Device Driver" but I can't find the specific driver on their website. I did previously install Toshiba's "Value Added Package" but apparently that only has the old driver.
- rixdpx64, rimmpx64, and rimspx64 appear to be related to Ricoh memory card drivers. Ricoh's website sends me here http://www.aicp.co.jp/en/products/sd.shtml but I don't see any Ricoh drivers.

What's the exact model of your Toshiba laptop?
SynTP.sys - this is your touchpad
The rix and rim stuff is for Ricoh card drivers


For now I'd disable the Ricoh stuff, but the touchpad and the TVALZ_O is probably needed, so leave it enabled.

Thanks. The model is a Toshiba Satellite A300-ST4004 (configure to order). I have downloaded and installed most of what would seem to be the relevant drivers from Toshiba's website here.

For now, I am leaving the PC in "hibernate" instead of "sleep" to see if this puts a stop to the issue - at least until I can try out all of the suggestions provided here.

BTW - you guys are a lot better that Microsoft support who have handed me off to literally about 9 different reps and who have never even asked me for a minidump file or other diagnosing info. I will give them credit for follow-up though as they seem to ping me at least once a day.

This is the proper file for the TVALZ_O update: Toshiba Value Added Package (TVAP) for Windows 7/Vista (64) (v1.2.27_64; 10-20-2009; 44M)
Unfortunately, it won't update the file - so don't bother installing it (the date on the one that I downloaded was 11/9/07)

Try sleeping to see if you still get errors.

Hi everyone. I'm still having a crash during sleep problem.

I have tried to update most everything that I could find as per the suggestions above from everyone - although I noticed some update packages didn't really change the hardware driver dates (maybe there are not more current drivers in the update packages than what I already had).

The PC was stable for a over a week (no crashes) but I was using "Hibernate" not "Sleep" mode. I went back to "Sleep" mode today, hoping for the best after applying all of the updates, but got another crash within a few hours.

Here is the minidump. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas.
