Solved Win 7 Prof not genuine and cannot enter genuine OEM product key

Darryl-

Tou were right. Thought about your post and decided I was making this WAY too complicated so did as you said and it activated this morning with the last key the ebay folks sent me via email. So THANK YOU for simplifying this for me. Tried the repair install andit did not work so had to do a clean install.

The ebay folks got so tired of me that they actually credited my account for $150 this past week to go retail so I have to decide what to do with that. Thinking since I have to rebuild my machine and the time I spent on this I would say we are EVEN STEVEN. :D

MANY, MANY Thanks again to all for you help on here and for this GREAT forum!

Todd-

You're very welcome! That's why we are here... to simplify and solve problems!

WELL, This just won't go away! Last night I was working on my laptop (I was not connected to the internet) and got the same message "Windows not Genuine" message again! So I went to computer - properties - and it showed my activation as "not available" and product Id as "not available" once again. I don't get it!

So this morning I tried once again with Microsoft and got nowhere and so I decided to to a restore which brought me back to showing my windoows as being activitated and it listing a product id as well. I then went into my MS updates and noticed a update of KB971033 installed yesterday. My understanding is this is some kind of activator checker and also flags "Not Genuine" windows products.

SO I uninstalled this update, rebooted, checked for updates, and hid this update from installing in the future.

Do you guys think I will be okay going forward doing the above? I just don't want to spend the time I am spending re-building this machine to have this happen again.

ANY direction you could provide would be appreciated!

Best bet @ this point is to wipe HDD, perform clean install using digital river iso and your key, then issue should go away!

This ebay company must have done some registry hack for the key that makes it keep showing as illegal!

Hi I'm late to the party so forgive me if I've missed a bit but from your post to Darryl here - http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...er-genuine-oem-product-key-8.html#post1689444 I'd say if you continue to have vaildation problems, then yeah Microsoft flagged that e-bay key as bad and I'd just take the 150 bucks refunded from e-bay and get a retail bought version of Windows and be done with it.

Also you're not going to be able to duck the OS check for too long as something will eventually flag it - Microsoft tends to get sneaky about these things.

I know I missed a lot so I'm going out on a limb. Good luck.

NoelDP and Darryl thanks for the replies.

Noel-

I will produce the reports you mention the next time the 'windows not genuine' does appear. Since doing a restore this morning it is showing that Windows is Activated and is also showing a product key with a OEM in its sequence. (Could this be my problem since this machine only came loaded with XP or Vista from rhe manufacturer- So I have been told?) The joker I got talked to from MS this morning said this machine could ONLY run XP or Vista.

Darryl-

I believe I did what you suggested. I did a "clean" install of Win 7 using the instructions on this forum using the iso you mention. When you say "wipe" my HDD do you mean something like "Format C:" even before I begin the clean install?

Thanks guys!

MS has already told him his key is in fact valid, so its valid!

Sorry - but that is just plain wrong.

ALL MS can do is say that a given time the Key is valid - it will NOT tell anyone that the Key has been stolen of fraudulently obtained, or sold 34 times in the past week.

Given a full MGADiag report, we can assess the likelihood of the installation being based on a fraudulent Key (such as an MSDN key that's been resold)

Folks-

One more thing I should mention in regards to this issue is last night before I was flagged as "not genuine" I was at home (were I do not get internet access) doing some system cleanup (i.e. deleting temp files, registry cleanup, etc) and I wonder if that may play a part in this issue. I can't fiqure out how if I am not on the net how I can get "flagged". I was doing cleanup task for some time 2 hours before this "windows not genuine" appeared. Could I have been too aggressive as I was using the same tools I used with my XP OS which I am just "stepping" up from.

OK - what piece of snake-oil salemanship were you using for 'registry cleanup'??
If it was WiseFixer, then it's destroyed your SPPSVC registry entries.
PLEASE post your MGADiag report!!

MS told him via phone he had a valid key... Ive had similar issues and MS told me the same. They can reset if a valid key has been used too many times as was the case I had where client had installed several times on their own machine. MS cleared this up over phone activation.

If you know something I do not, please enlighten me with specifics and links if possible!

OP also didnt perform a clean install, he merely installed on top of problem install. Additionally he has reported ebay store to MS for possible conterfeit copy and the ebay retailer has given him an additional key.

Folks-

Okay the Apps I was using to "clean" my machine are as follows"

Wise registry cleaner - Deep Clean (advanced)
Tune up utilities - One click maintenance and registry cleaner and reg defrag
Revo Uninstaller - basically all of theirr clean up utilities they provide besides the uninstall function.

I admit I get a little crazy with this stuff and used it all the time with my XP OS with no problems but I know I am dealing with a different one here.

Please tell me my stupidity is the problem here!

Just use DVD you created with iso from digital river and follow my link to clean install. Follow that tutorial and then try and activate with MS.

Do not use a registry cleaner, especially if intended for XP on Win7! Actually I dont advise using a registry cleaner at all, ever! Try the clean install with the MS verified valid key and report back to us...

Read a few of the posts in the forum and learn, rather than trying to argue with me :)

Validation (and Activation) is like the UK MOT test - all it does is assess the system *at the time of the check* - and that is also all the MS Activation people are able to do (and perhaps all the are allowed to do). Their lack of any real knowledge is depressing, and legendary.

There are many cases where a Key has been activated for more than a year, until the vendor gets greedy and sells more than allowed - then the unfortunate purchasers of the Key involved are left with invalid Keys that fail either Activation or Validation, or both.

ToddB:

Just use DVD you created with iso from digital river and follow my link to clean install. Follow that tutorial and then try and activate with MS.

Do not use a registry cleaner, especially if intended for XP on Win7! Actually I dont advise using a registry cleaner at all, ever! Try the clean install with the MS verified valid key and report back to us...

The source of the installation is not the critical factor in ANY Windows instal - it's the source and validaity of the KEY.
Until we see the MGADiag report, we CANNOT offer any opinion as to the validity of this current installation.
