The CBS log appears to be complaining about one of these two packages...

Code:
2014-01-07 12:15:24, Info CBS External EvaluateApplicability, package: Package_for_KB2271195_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0, package applicable State: Installed, highest update applicable state: Staged, resulting applicable state:Staged

2014-01-07 12:15:24, Info CBS Failed to internally open package. [HRESULT = 0x800f0805 - CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE]
... although I'm not convinced that the problem is the same as the one in the article I referenced above, since the actual error line in CBS.log is
Code:
2014-01-07 12:15:24, Error CBS Failed to shred identity: Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-LanguagePack [HRESULT = 0x80070057 - E_INVALIDARG]

There is another similar error -
Code:
2014-01-07 12:15:19, Info CBS Appl: Partial install Status testing, package: Package_for_KB975467_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0, partially installed (true/false), 0
2014-01-07 12:15:19, Info CBS Appl: Partial install Status testing, package: Package_for_KB975467~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0, partially installed (true/false), 0
2014-01-07 12:15:19, Info CBS Session: 30346146_561896971 initialized by client WindowsUpdateAgent.
2014-01-07 12:15:19, Info CBS Failed to internally open package. [HRESULT = 0x800f0805 - CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE]

but nothing else that I can find

In the WindowsUpdate.log file, I think these translate to the following error lines..
Code:
2014-01-07 09:57:08:930 1128 40c Agent WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId = {2A1234D0-3E2D-4D9E-AA5E-3430A20EDC11}.100, hr = 80242013
2014-01-07 09:57:14:534 1128 40c Agent WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId = {818701AF-1182-45C2-BD1E-17068AD171D6}.101, hr = 80242013

I wonder if it's simply because the permissions aren't being carried down properly? - Let's check that by using the like that I screwed up earlier.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command.

ICACLS C:\Windows /grant "NT Service\TrustedInstaller":(CI)(IO)(F)

then reboot, and try SP1 from the standalone again.

Attached a CBS log for you to review. Let me know if you need anything else!

It may be the same error code - but it's a vastly different error! :) It's going to take me a while to digest this, and I'm busy all day today
Please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log - I'll have a look at that and see if it confirms what I've seen so far.

This is a timeout error on the internet rather than anything else.

However, just before that, we getthe following error...
Code:

This is different to the earlier errors, and I need to do some research

This appears to be the critical error...

The 00002 error is a 'file not found' one, as I think we've discussed before.

I really have no idea where to go from here - you best way forward is likely to be a repair install, and if that fails, then a clean install. :(
