OK, no prob :)
Something about it appears to be 'stuck' on the IP address from the work server/router.
Please check the Device Manager for problems - with the NIC particularly.

The device driver is quite happy - NIC is OK as far as I can see. Certainly there appears to be no problems accessing the network/internet here or where the computer normally lives.

Reference an earlier post, there was some evidence of McAfee on this machine - I don't know why, probably came tacked onto some other application download. But when I removed Norton, I ran the McAfee removal tool too just for good measure.

Good - it may be that the McAfee was preinstalled by the manufacturer, and simply uninstalled previously without running the removal utility.
Unfortunately, those two are the bêtes noire of AV's - and between then cause almost as many problems as the viruses they are supposed to protect against. I've known machines brought to a standstill because of residuals from either or both - even after use of the removal tools.

It's been a while - please run another MGADiag report to confirm that nothing we've done has changed the results.

Since the problem is in the VBS script area, let's re-register the files, and check (a couple of) the proper registry entries.....

Please open an elevated command prompt, and run the following commands.... (copy/paste them!)

net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml2.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml3.dll /s
regsvr32 urlmon.dll /s
regsvr32 softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 initpki.dll /s

regsvr32 slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 jscript.dll /s
regsvr32 vbscript.dll /s
net start wuauserv

Hopefully, they'll complete without obvious response.

HI Noel, hope you got something nice to eat yesterday.
The ailing PC is back in the SCF office now. I explained to the users what I have been up to and primed them that the worst case would be a clean install. They didn’t like the sound of that but it wouldn’t be that bad and I pointed out that any computer could just stop working and that’s why we have backups. However as they can use it quite happily, there is no pressure from them.
However, any flashes of inspiration from you would be gratefully followed up by me. I can interact with the forum here (at my work) and at home but I will only be able to try things on the computer after work on my way home at five o’clock.
I just thought I would say this in case you have thought of something since yesterday but had been distracted by all the other interesting and probably more important demands on your time. :)

Thanks for understanding my situation! :)
I've actually managed to clear the decks a little today - three complex threads closed out, and one tied to another so that the OP should be following it (and not expecting separate input until the first is cleared)

That only leaves me with around 30 active threads :D

I have this whole thread in its own instance of IE for instant reference when I get the odd second - what I need to do is distill the findings so far, and work out a strategy for action. I haven't forgotten you - but if you don't hear from me every day or so, SHOUT! - it means I got distracted again :)

The history with 0xc0000034 errors is not good - I can't find a single case where the problem has been solved short of a clean install. :(

Having said that - let's see what happens if we run a couple of small tests.

Please first download the file wmitest.zip from here -
https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21526

Save it, and extract the contained VBS file (and shortcut) to your desktop

Then run the following commands from an Elevated Command prompt.

CSCRIPT %userprofile%\desktop\wmitest.vbs
CSCRIPT C:\Windows\System32\slmgr.vbs /dlv

OK _ so WMI is functioning properly, but for some reason slmgr can't access the data properly.

I'm going to see if I can get someone in MS to respond to this - it's about time I got them involved. <eg>

Dunno about the wisdom bit :)
- but they should at least know WTH the error actually means in that context (it's one of those ones that means different things in different contexts)
