The last couple of times I've booted up Windows 7, prior to launching the OS, It has felt the need to perform some sort of drive error checking task, and as far as I know, I haven't scheduled any 'checking for errors' type-tasks for my hard drive.

What's going on?

Thanks in advanced.

Probably checking because something is not right, with the system. Do a system image to a time prior to the problem. Don't have any early images, try system restore.

Yes.

there is a known problem with avira antivir in combination with something else in the windows 7 environment causing an error which sets a dirty bit , avira are working on a solution and a "quick fix" was available as of today, so I suggest either unninstall avira and see if the issue stops, or goto their forum and post and or message the moderator Alexandru Manea stating your windows version and i'm confident he can provide the latest fix :geek:

for the purposes of investigation can I ask what was the last program you installed before this error started ?

Thanks you guys.

So, I'll be doing the following:

1) Checking the drive for errors with Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic Tool.

If it comes clean:

2) I'll try reseting chkdsk back to it's default setting.

EDIT: Although I really wanna hear what ickymay has to say (been using Avira AntiVir Personal for a ~week now).

EDIT #2: =O... I see, thanks a lot matey!

The first time I noticed chkdsk running on boot, was... maybe like a couple of days ago.

The last program(s) I've installed are Microsoft Office 2007 & Microsoft Visio 2007.
