Windows 7 DNS server is not responding

I got a new laptop a couple of weeks ago (dell vostro 3300, core i5, windows 7 professional 64-bit, DW 1501 Wireless-N WLAN half mini card) and it worked fine. A couple of days ago it stopped connecting to the internet through ANY wireless network. I manage to connect to the network but not to the internet.

After diagnosis it gives me the following message:

"your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding"

At home I connect through a wireless router. Now, my desktop can connect through my router to the internet and my laptop connects through the router ONLY IF I connect it physically to the router (through the network connection).


I tried the following steps:
-reinstall wireless card drivers
-Check for malware and viruses (im using trend micro)
-shutting down the firewall
-restarting computer (many times)
- all possible diagnoses supplied by windows 7
-CHECKING THIS AND OTHER FORUMS.

This problem seems to be quite repetitive with windows 7 for some reason. I did not find any good solution.

I am only somewhat computer literate, so I did not really change any advanced definitions (besides some which were suggested in different forums).

I hope someone can help me here - this is very frustrating.

You state that if you connect via a wired connection you can access the Internet and your network, but if you connect wirelessly you can only access your network but not the Internet. I am assuming that your desktop is a wired connection. This would indicate that there is nothing wrong with your laptop connecting to the router with either method. This leaves the problem with the router itself. Possibly some settings in the router need correcting/resetting. Check your router manual. If you let us know what the make and full model number of your router (including revision) is, someone should be able to help you.

The easiest solution would be to reset the router to its default factory settings and then configure your connections again. You will need to have a wired connection for this, even if you intend to use wireless normally. Again, follow the instructions in your router manual.

I guess I was not too clear on this issue. I connect to the router wirelessly through my desktop and it works perfectly. Also my flatmate connects wirelessly through the same router using his own laptop without a problem.

Due to this I assume its not the router which is at fault.

JCrissup's post on the thread you directed me to solved the issue. I only had to disable the 'Microsoft virtual wifi miniport' network and I got the internet running again.

Same Problem

I have just recently encountered the same problem on my Laptop (Win7) based. I do not, or can't find, The Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor... I Checked in My Nework connections page... My friend came over today... he had no problem connecting... I cannot figure this out... I too get that same message, and can connect via ethernet...
