Hello!

My laptop, a bogstandard sony vaio vgn-sr51mf, keeps on unexpectedly turning off while I'm using realplayer.

I would really appreciate some help and I apologise in advance because some of this is probably beyond my, somewhat limited, technical expertise.

This won't fix your problem, but you can use VLC Media Player as a substitute in the mean time. It doesn't play all versions of Real files, but should play most. If you want a real alternative, then I suggest Media Player Classic HomeCinema & Real Alternative Codec Pack.

Did you have this problem before you installed RealPlayer?

Using SystemRestore, restore you system to a point in time where the system was functional.

WIN + Pause/Break | in the left-hand task pane select, System Protection |
click on the System Restore button
select the desired restore point.

WIN denotes that key with the funny looking wavy flag on it.
