i have a problem but i bought a new Dell laptop with the following specifications
Dell inspiron 15R
core i7 3.1GHz Turbo, 6MB cache
16GB DDR3 RAM
Geforce Gt525 1GB Graphics

now the problem is that when the system is ideal it takes around 2.5 GB RAM usage
even there is no running applications
also i noticed that it's performance not that much.

is it normal?

I think it's OK. For Win7 Ult it's normal to use about 25-30% of the RAM in idle. And it's about that percentage no matter how much RAM do You have installed .

Thanks for your reply.
but it keep riasing and stick to the maximum reached.
also when i start a game the cpu heat become very high and make a lot of sound
even though i have 1GB Graphics card and the game doesn't have that load
also i sense a lot of heat from the hard disk site whcih reached for 54 C (using HD tune Pro software)
is it normal?
and does heating of the hard disk can make performance problems?

The heat of a hard drive won't affect performance, unless it gets too hot and causes the laptop to shut down.

If you are trying to game on a laptop, it will cause the components to get warmer (normal) and make the fans spin faster, which makes more noise. Gaming and laptops usually don't mix. My wife has an Inspiron 15R, and while it is a great laptop for her, it is not a gaming system.

Your RAM usage seems a little high with nothing running and then you say it keeps Rising and Sticks to Max reached. What exactly does Sticks to Max reached mean?

Take a look at what is being started when Windows Starts. More then likely you have some Dell Bloatware starting that doesn't need to be. Then if you have installed a Anti Virus program that too can be eating up RAM, depending on which AV program you are using.

If you are using either McAfee or Norton get rid of them and install MS Security Essentials.
Check the services for programs that are running that don't need to be as with most all programs today they all like to LOAD something with the startup of Windows which IMHO do not need to be running.

First thing to do is create the System Disc using the included Dell utility program (Actually you can create an ISO and save that to an external and burn that ISO down to USB thumb drive). Then WIPE the drive and Reinstall Windows and all the Dell system software drivers. Then install the programs you normally use and see if the system get faster.

Even with no other programs running, the System Idle process will still show a high CPU usage. I have a Sony Vaio with 8GB RAM. With nothing running Task Manager shows between 95-98% System Idle CPU usage. Even though nothing is running, System Idle is still ... well ... idling. :)

Another consideration is how Windows 7 makes use of RAM. The basic philosophy is "unused RAM is wasted RAM." You could open Resource Manager and see how RAM usage changes as you're doing various tasks. From just "idling" to game playing and everything in between.

As DeaconFrost said, laptops and gaming usually don't mix. Ventilation in a laptop is minimal. You can improve it by never putting the laptop on your lap, a pillow, bedspread, or anything else that blocks the vents. A cooling pad can help dissipate heat.
