Hi

I am in the process of installing a new hard drive in my friends PC. Unfortunately he does not have a recovery disc for the Win7 installation and is unable to obtain one.He does however have the Win7 HP Key for the OEM. I however have a retail Upgrade Win7 installation disc. This upgrade is installed on my own pc.I have tried the MS site for downloading an ISO file but when I entre the Winy Key it just tells me that this is an OEM key for which they will not supply an ISO. A thought had occurred to me that I could obtain an ISO from the MS site using my Win7 Upgrade Disc Key,burn it to a DVD on my pc then install it on my friends pc using his Win 7 HP Key. Would this work. If so would it cause any problem with my pc. If this is not workable are there any other suggestions. I do find it very annoying that people pay good money for a PC which includes paying for Windows only to be left in my friends position. After all a plastic disc does not cost that much

Thanks

Philip

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Yep manufactures couldn't really figure out how to add all of the crapware to a single disk so they made a system restore partition instead
Usually these partitions get corrupt or the utility to go back to factory state gets corrupted,

As far as your upgrade version is concerned you can review this

Your friend however needs to contact the manufacture for another copy or recovery install disk.
