Hey guys,I now have an old IDE HDD 40GB that has Windows XP Pro on it.So I want to install my Windows 7 on my new SATA HDD...So,I want to install Windows 7 on this new SATA.

I just got my copy of Windows 7 in an ISO file format.I burned it to a DVD,then tried to boot my computer from the DVD,but can't!I don't know why. That's my first problem. The next problem is:So,I just boot into XP,put in the DVD,then try installing while XP is running.

But,during the installation,'Copying Windows File' goes well, but when it reaches 'Expanding Windows files',at 27%,the computer will restart. After it restarts,it goes back to the setup, then after a few seconds,it will stop and restart again, then boots back into XP and gives me an error saying 'Windows 7 installation was not successful.'Your previous version of windows has been restored, etc. :(

So,I really want to get my Windows 7 running, but I'm sick of this problem.Another thing is,when Win 7 setup starts,it will copy temporary files first right? It takes a sickening long time!! :(

Help please.Thanks very much.

:)

P.S:I'm doing a clean install

You can't do a clean install while in XP...you will have to boot and clean install from there

I believe you burned the ISO wrong...try using this
The Official ImgBurn Website

Make sure you set the image as bootable

Oh,I see.Is that so?

My DVD can't freaking boot,my friend burned it for me,so probably he did it wrong or set the burning speed too high?

You can do a clean install from within XP, I've done it.

To the OP, do you have your cd/dvd drive as first boot option in the bios?

It could have been a number of things...

For good measure...reboot to your BIOS and set it to boot CD/DVD first in the Boot Order Priority->Save Changes

Reboot with the Disc in the drive and see if it boots up the 7 installer

Yes,my DVD is set to boot first in the BIOS.

And maybe booting from DVD will solve the problem,I'm not sure.
