Windows 7 keeps crashing on my new computer

I just bought a new computer 3 days ago, and everytime close/minimize an app or adjust the volume via my keyboard my computer freezes. Every one keeps telling me I might have a virus, but I havn't downloaded anything yet. My virus software is kaspersky, which I receantly uninstalled because I was told it glitches with windows 7.

Does the app minimisation symptom occur if you boot the machine into safe mode (press F8 at startup)?

There is no problem what so ever if I boot my computer in safe mode.

Viruses are generally not so obliging as to deactivate themselves in safe mode, unless they were written by an aspiring but inexperienced malware author, so the fact that you're fine in safe mode suggests that the machine is not poxed up. It also presents a relatively simple means of deducing the culprit...

Use the in-built MSCONFIG utility to choose the option of a "diagnostic" startup, and then reboot (into normal mode - not safe mode). If everything is still OK at that point, choose "selective" startup in MSCONFIG and deselect roughly half of the optional components which it allows you to deactivate. Reboot again.

If you're still good at that point, use MSCONFIG/selective to re-enable half of the optional components you deactivated, then reboot.

If you're still symptom free... you get the idea
