Solved Windows 7 laggy, many programs unresponsive

After rebooting when the seatools didnt work my computer started right up. So i downloaded seatools for windows as opposed to the dos version.

It passed the long test, short test and the s.m.a.r.t test. Now what?

That is expected... because your Reallocated sector counts would need to reach 50 the threshold before the short and long test show failure...

In any case this smart value is a warning and an impending sign that the HDD would fail in the future ...it might take months or maybe a year to do so.... But do keep an eye on the reallocated sector count.... if it goes up rapidly... its time for replacement...

Again... try running the benchmark using HDD tune. and post a screenshot here

Well, since the hd is on its way out anyways, im running a more current back up(most current is a few weeks old) and then i'll do a clean install on my new hard drive. the benchmark test is running, i'll post a shot shortly

That doesn't look good... seee the transfer rates as well the access time.... its slow...

But i do see that there is something else running in the background.... when you are doing the benchmark... are you taking a backup ??

When you are doing a benchmark ... close all other programs...

ya I didnt even think about that until it was to late. I'd already started the back up. I'll re-run it when the backup is done.

Dusten,
For each and every "drive", go to an elevated command prompt and enter following command:
CHKDKS X: /R
where X represents the "drive" to be tested.

If prompted for a restart, then restart immediately.

After this is finished, then let me know and I'll post a script so that we can view the chkdsk results.

Go To an Elevated Command Prompt


Elevated command prompt = Run CMD.EXE as administrator

WIN | type CMD.EXE | do not hit Enter |
in the PROGRAMS list, right-click on CMD.EXE |
choose "Run as administrator" |
Click on the YES button (if such appears)

WIN key = key with Microsoft log on top

for the guru:
WIN | type CMD.EXE | CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER key combo | ALT+Y keycombo

I appreciate all the help guys but at this point id bought a good hard drive that's an upgrade from stock. I made a back up to my external and did a clean install on my new drive. Windows is currently restoring my back up

I'd call it resolved, my computer is running fantastic. I got the scorpio black not blue, but from what I read thats the better of the two hd's
