Windows 7 Login “The user name or password is incorrect”

When I login to windows if I have a password assigned the opening screen before I entry the password it states “The user name or password is incorrect” I then have to click OK and then I can go to the login screen. How do I eliminate that?

If you used netplwiz to automatically log in to your account at startup and mistakenly entered an incorrect password, it could cause this issue.

If this is the case, then you can setup netplwiz again with the correct password to fix this.

Just to verify, is the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box checked in netplwiz?

I just looked and it is not checked in netplwiz

In that case, check the box and click on OK to see if you still have this log in issue afterwards.
