hello,

I have had w7 installed for about 2 weeks with no prob. This morning I briefly used my tablet pc (hp 2730p) for about 30 min. I put it to sleep to take my gf to work and when I got back about 40 min later i tried to log on and it wouldn't accept my password.

At first, I thought it was just not accepting my password but, at random, I deliberately input incorrect passcodes and nothing happened. It basically resets the cursor and gives me the option to reset password.

So I booted in SM and changed the password and nothing happened, I tried to remove it and nothing happened, it's as if the screen just won't leave or something.

Please don't redirect me to usual tuts about this, because it's clear to me that this isn't an ordinary problem seeing as in how I have tried just about everything to reset/remove my password.

Please help, thanks.

There is no way to do a repair install without the disc, but you can try other things.

Try opening an elevated command prompt, and running sfc /scannow.

You can try this. Basically this app will re-write the file with passwords, so usually this is a tool to deal with forgotten password situation. You seem to remember yours, however, it might be that the password file is somehow corrupted. So, you may try to restore it this way. If this does not work though, you're probably looking at repair install, as Jonathan has suggested.

Fully agree with this tool. It works. For a full tutorial, have a look at this link. Method 3. :)

Windows 7 wont accept password

A simple way to solve this is restart in safe mode (use F8). If the password is correct, it should work in safe mode. Then create a new administrator user to use in case the situation repeats.
