I have tried to work this out myself, but now realize this computer hasn't had an update since 8/16/17. Running Windows 7 Home Premium SP-1 64 Bit on a HP desktop. Followed some earlier suggestions; ran sfc/scannow - No Integrity Violations. Ran C:\windows\system32>DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth. Received message; Deployment: Image Servicing and Management: tool Version: 6.1.7600.16385 Image version: 6.1.7601.18489 Error 87 The Restore Health option is not recognized in this context. I changed Windows update settings to 'Never' and deselected the two boxes below that. I have initiated Windows update; the screen says I have 80 Important Updates. It's been running for 45 minutes and hasn't downloaded a thing. I sure would appreciate some (detailed) help. Please!
