Hello all,

This is a very weird problem that just started cropping up about 2 days ago. For some reason, when I use my laptop on battery, the screen will go completely dark after about a minute of use. This most recently happened this morning. The first time this happened, I just held down my power button, and then turned the laptop on after a minute's wait. On that occasion, the laptop started up again, and it seemed to be waking up from hibernate or something.

But this morning, when I held down the power button and tried to turn it on again, it wouldn't. I plugged in my charger, and then the laptop was able to resume Windows, but the weirdest thing is, it said my battery was at 0%. The reason that seems odd to me is because it was fully charged last night. Right before the random screen turnoff, I checked my battery status, and it said 94%. So why did it go down to 0% after a minute and a half of use?

Now that my laptop is on, and connected to the charger, it is fully charged after about 10 minutes. That doesn't quite make sense either, so does anyone know what's going on? Is it Windows 7? Or is it my laptop? The laptop will be 3 years old this November. Working on battery hasn't been a problem except for these past few days, and I haven't installed any new programs, or altered any settings that I'm aware of. If anyone has help, I would really appreciate it =)

When that happens it means your battery is dead. It can no longer hold a charge.

Many people don't realize that laptop batteries only have a service life of about 2-3 years. Sometimes less.

The manufacturer will only warranty the battery for one year, even if the laptop has a 3 year warranty. If your battery is no longer holding a charge, you will need to buy a replacement.

You can either buy one from the company that makes your laptop, or shop any of the dozens of online battery stores.

That's so weird.. I have a friend with an old HP that lasted her 5 years...

Sucks for me I guess =/ Do you know of any reliable places to buy a good battery?

Seems to be a run on laptop batteries lately.
Do you take your battery out when using wall plug in connection?
Many theories but you are fortunate for 3 years with same battery is nearing a record.

Yeah, I always take out the battery when using the wall plugin charger. I heard that extends the life, so I've always done that. I read post 9, and am now proceeding to follow through. Thanks to everyone for the opinions =)

okay, a quick update. My laptop turned off at first because it had only 5 % left. i thought i'd wear it all down so I could recharge it all the way, so I turned it back on. the battery meter was still at 5%, then jumped to 45%, and is now 12%. What does this all mean?
